Coffee and...For Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I keep missing new threads, so I haven't been around lately.
Jody
It's officially THANKSGIVING.....HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL MY FAMILY.
May God Bless you and yours this wonderful day.
Hap
Morning Hap. I'm on my way to bed, but since it's officially Thanksgiving ... thought I'd post here first. Hope you have a very happy day. :)
Much love to all my wonderful friends on DG. Each of you have become special to me. The coffee thread is the first thing I want to read in the morning and the last place I want to check at night before turning in. Thanks to all of you who have made me feel welcomed.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my friends here at Coffee and...... I am still reading reading reading and am so excited about our new "GOBs and Gobbettes. Welcome to a great thread and a wonderful bunch of cyber friends.
I am still entertaining my dh with the exploits of all you wonderful friends and each and every one of you are touching my heart in one way or another.......Laughter, tears or O' no not you too!
May your day be filled with fun, family, food and most of all a heart of THANKSGIVING for all that we have been blessed with this season and in every breath that we take.
We are being kind this year, here are a couple that got away, we are having ham! In fact we have tape of our cat chasing them out of the yard.
Joy
And good morning to all....Joy, if you are counting on the cat to provide meat for dinner, you haven't been properly trained. It's the other way around, you are supposed to chase down the dinner and provide it to them. It's a rule!
Have a good day, all!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Jody
M'5 over the years I have had too much "meat" left at the door step by well meaning felines. Our dinner or not, it was not appetizing!!
We are frequently visited by these guys and bambi along with all their friends. But, we have not added them to our freezer in 20 years. My dad was shot during deer season about 20 years ago (but wasn't hurt just a big bruise on his chest where his zipper stopped the slug, it was on its way down from a shot on the other side of the hill) and that kinda took the edge off hunting at this house but not for dad or my brother. Now ds is equipped with everything but time to go hunting. I wouldn't mind some venison in the freezer but it won't happen this year.
HAPPY Thanksgiving allllllll
great to see so many here on this wonderful morning everything smells great!!!!
ENJOY!!!!!
Anne
I too want to wish everyone a very Blessed, Happy Thanksgiving. I am very thankful for the *friends* I have made here at DG. It's funny how one can *feel close* with people you have never *met*. I am so glad julie and mg invited me for coffee and...amongst all the other threads I have *friends* in, I really love my time on DG with everyone.
I hope those of you who are traveling have a safe journey. I am so thankful for all of God's Blessings in my life and I pray All have an extraordinary Thanksgiving with their families and friends.
God Bless All,
Kelly
We ALL have so much to be Thankful for... At the top of my list are all my wonderful friends on DG!Happy Thanksgiving!
A very Happy Thanksgiving from frosty Wisconsin.
Among the many things that I give thanks for are the wonderful friends that I met on Dave's Garden.
I wish you all a marvelous Turkey Day. Hope that you've enjoyed the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, along with all of the turkey induced naps in front of a footbal game on TV, (or whatever your traditions may be).
Be kind to your families and enjoy the day for what it is.....My Favorite Holiday! Food, family and friends......without the stress of gift giving.
Enjoy one and all!
Marie
Happy Thanksgiving with peace and contentment to spare!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!
Maria, love that pic of your good food. I would love to have a piece of that eggnog bread, thanks.
Joy, do love the turkey pic. Yes, cats can bring all kinds of nasty things home just for us.
Yes, we all have a lot to be thankful for. We are still alive, healthy for the most part, active thru our gorgeous gardens, etc. Plus this good old DG, what would we do without it here!!! LOL
Have a great day today everyone!
Carol (DR)
Joy what a neat thing to have the turkeys running through the yard I would be tempted to feed them all year long. Do they bring their young ones by in the spring?
Maria what did you make the mince out of there is some on my counter that mil made as she does every year of deer meat you are talented in the Kitchen but I can't see you packing fire power and shooting deer lol must be beef. That egg nog bread is it like bread or is it sweet like cake I never heard of it before.
Carol lol Mary the cat brings us all kinds of treasures she believes in sharing. I got some huge clumps of bulbs dug I dont think I like the no dig for three years method some of these root balls are huge.
All of you that are traveling for the holiday drive safe night before last I just missed seeing a fatal on the freeway it went off at a on ramp that I had just passed when I got home Linda said you are late I thought you were probably stalled on I 5 there was a fatal at the cook road and both north bound lanes are blocked. Last night I struck a piece of curb that was recently built for some butification project. I was blinded by a car that crossed the center line and ducked to the right to escape it and when I was comming back I hit the curb and bounced over the corner with the front wheel bending the rim and tearing the tire .Poohey I am staying out of the car today lol
It is a cool clear beautiful day here the sun is bright and the few clouds are high white and streaked my guess is no rain in sight. Years ago this was allways a traditional hunting or fishing day my mother loved it us guys gone from under foot leaving her to cook without being bothered.
Linda the patient is doing much much better only had pain pills once yesterday even after going to Physical Therapy. I am going to cook a turkey after all Grrrr I would rather smoke it but know nothing about cooking turkeys . I do know I would not make anyone a good wife cleaning and doing laundry and making beds is hard work and constant and I do not like doing it I would rather work in my shop and grow tomatoes lol. A tip of the hat to all of you who do this every day Linda does this and works full time to and if I had her schedual I would have run away from home and just said no to all this.
Have a good day lots eat lots laugh often and have a nice nap lol. Ernie

Ernie,
Thanks foor posting that pic,,,,,,,what a little stinker,,,LOL But, A CUTE one at that,,,LOL
Kelly
Oh, man, that puppy sure looks happy and very muddy, Ernie!!! lol
Yep, if you have good soil and drainage, those tubers will just love to make more tubers in a short time. You didn't have to dig them. You could have just left them in the ground. Nobody says you have to dig them if they are protected from freezing and rotting.
Please drive safely, Ernie. You do live out in the boonies so watch out for those crazy drivers.
Carol (DR)
Eweed, we never know when the turkeys will appear. One spring they were roosting in the trees all around the house, they are usually just crossing our property all strung out in a row. The most we have seen is about 50 but that was a few years ago. We do feed the 'birds' on the ground during the winter and we never know what else might be eating. I am more likely to see hens with their young traveling the country roads, I love so to gawk and drive!
You best be careful those lights at night can really blind you specially if you are like us and all summer long we hardly were out after dark. Now it is dark at both ends of the day! BUT in less than a month the days will start getting longer. Yippie Skippie. I know what your wife is going through.....it is absolutely terrible. DH had the same surgery last February but he had a 'block' that totally blocked the pain for about 8 hours, that helped him a lot.
Love the pics of the pups, hope you don't mind I made the first one my wallpaper for a while. Joy
I buy prepared mincemeat without meat, dried apples, raisins. citrus fruit, brown sugar, spices and rum or brandy . Would not touch it If I knew there ws deer meat in it.
Eggnog bread is sweet, nice with coffee, tea or milk
Joy yes she had the block to and it is to bad it could not last longer the pain pills help and do dimm the pain but there is nothing to be done for the discomfort and the sleeplessness. The sleep that comes from pain pills is not really good sleep. Glad you enjoyed the pic glad you have it on your wall paper,
Carol I know I didnt have to dig them but needed to share some and move some I have such a mess I need to grow them elsewhere and regroup I love water lillys and devided lots of innocence and cameo really like drummer boy and need to buy it again from maybe swan Island I used to get catalog from them guess I will hjave to look into that.
Lol Maria I bet mince meat started out being venision in the pioneer days.
Mince meat, in Europe, is a shortened version of minced sweatmeats, it is conserve made of minced dried fruit. It is delicious mixed with a little brandy and cooked in an individual puff pastry case. These are known as mince pies, you would probably call them mince tarts here.
Traditionally we left them out on Xmas Eve for Father Christmas, with a glass of milk and a carrott for Rudolf. They were always gone in the morning, so we knew there really was a Santa because who else could have eaten them? LOL
Just got back from DS and DILs house still feeling stuffed. In the end I took my favorite "Devils on Horseback", I made 75 and they all went so they must have been popular even if I did have to explain what they were to the Americans. They are baby sausages wrapped in Bacon held together with a wooden toothpick and grilled. DH prefers them to Turkey, so we always have them.
Thank-you all for being here and being the great guys and gals you are. I have had so much fun with you all this year.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
Carol
The English One
My MIL always made mincemeat pies plus the little turn overs she called mince meat tarts for the holidays, guess she followed the tradition of her ancestors, I have continued to do so, my family cannot imagine being without them and your are right, mincemeat is delicious.
Your 'Devils on Horseback' sound yummy
Hi all! Happy Thanksgiving!
Our brined and fried turkey turned out great! We didn't burn the house down! We had beautiful weather too. Nice lovely day all around and me, DH, MIL (AudreyJo) and FIL have had a great day - lots to be thankful for. And - I echo what Darius says - one of my blessings that I'm extremely grateful for is DG and my friends here! May God bless you all!
Pecan Pie is waiting......see you later ;-)
Marcia
oh groan! I'm still full and we ate at noon! It was a wonderful day! Sunny with the temp up to high 60s (it may have actually made 70), good food and great company. I hope all of youhave had a good day, too.
I shall now start the process of rolling myself off to bed. I figure as slow as I'm moving, I ought to get there just about 9:30 with a book to read at least one sentence before I crash!
((((to all))))
ginni
Maria, you have snow already? I bet Samson loves it!
We had flurries twice yesterday but nary a flake stuck!

Ah, Maria, love that picture of the snow along with the snowflakes coming down. Cool. But you keep it on your side of the US please. I don't want it here in Oregon yet. lol
Well, since we already had our Thanksgiving dinner the other day at my son's girlfriends house, I spent the day outside working in the garden. In the 30's degree weather, digging up dahlia tubers plus cutting down and mulching the ones I don't want to dig. After awhile, it started to rain so I decided to quit. My butt was frozen along with my hands! But got some yard work done but still have a ways to go. I plan on getting the rest of the tubers dug by the end of this Thanksgiving weekend. If not, I don't know if I ever will get it done this year.
Geez, this fall just flew by.
Carol (DR)
Groan ... this is not good! I'm sitting here still stuffed from the noon meal. We had a wonderful day with my in-laws. The weather was gorgeous. Was in the low 80's ... had the house opened up again. :) Good food, family and great weather. So much to be thankful for. I hope everyone is fairing okay after all the festivities. Hugs and much love to all.
... Elaine
Goodnight, Gracie. Hope everyone had a wonderful day!
I'm still up, planning my shopping attack for tomorrow morning!! I'll be at the stores by 5:30am (now is that stupid or what!!!)
Didn't eat much at all - after cooking all day, I just wasn't hungry....I'll make up for it on Friday - leftover always taste better to me anyhow!!
Nighty nite everyone!!!!
I'm still online here. Did some packing this morning until about 1:30. Went to Happy_1's for TG dinner. What a lovely time we had and the meal was wonderful. Had some very interesting conversations with her and her friends. I styled my hair and put on a dress and drove the mustang over. Imagine that!
Came home and changed back into sweat clothes and packed some more in the container until Jeremy got a pain in the man's you know where.
The PODS are coming to pick up the container between 10 and 1pm. We still have lots left to put in there, but I think we are going to make it. Will be a little late getting to work in the morning, but will do our best.
We also had some cooler weather these past few days, but it warmed up today. No snow tho.
Busy weekend coming up. Should be interesting. Lots more driving to do.
Need to find me an OAL disk with lots of free months, either that or I will be spending all my time working the property next week.
Molly
:^)))
Had a luscious dinner with DGS and his wife, who is a very good cook, turkey was beautiful, DS and DIL joined us as well, and we had a lovely visit . Got home in time to watch Survivor, and put on loose clothes....Very cold here after yesterday's snowfall, temp is now about 16*, so I brought in my laundry supplies from the shelf in the garage other wise they will be solid by morning. Stores are opening here as early as 5 am tomorrow morning...but you won't see me in there. I might be doing a bit of shopping on the 'net, rather than face the crowds and congested parking. Here's DGS, DH and DS, waiting for the food to be served.....Camilla the dog was happy to have some play time with the "boys" and even happier when she got some turkey!
I was hoping to get my cards addressed this morning but I started a new Patricia Cornwall book and didn't get much done at all. Ready to roll into my comfy bed and read a page or two before Morpheus takes me to dreamland.
Night George.....
Hey, Molly, you MUST, and I mean, you must post a picture of you in that dress and stylish hair. I need, need to see you dressed up!!! Wow! (was there going to be a guy there, hehe)
Sarv, I can imagine you at the store that early. You do love good bargains!!!
Sheila, good looking family and dog. Which is that new Pat. Cornwall book? I need to get that book. Love them!
Well, nite all,
Carol (DR)
Well, I see that everyone survived this abundant holiday. We went to DS and his girlfriends, and they had a super great meal. (did I tell you that my son is a chef) This is the first TG that I have gone somewhere, took nothing, and was prohibited from helping clean up. Now could I ask for anything better. My reservations about girlfriends family was unfounded. They were wonderful. So in my way of thinking, this was my best every Thanksgiving.
I see by all the groans, and grunts, that everyone had enough to eat. My only regret about not having TG at my house, I WON'T HAVE ANY LEFTOVERS!!. DH just said we haven't had fish this week, so I guess, fish it is tomorrow.
Well, I am off to bed, my sleeping marathon has been broken. Didn't sleep well last night, so hope that tonight is better.
Did I tell you how thankful I am that I have all of you "cyber friends" here at DG? If not, I count my blessings every day. Thanks to all of you who have made my last 10 months here so enjoyable.
Good Night All.
We had a wonderful dinner...ate TOO much...got TOO tired...slept TOO long when I got home. But I'm tired so I'm going to bed. :-)
Glad to read that everyone (so far) has had a great day. (Molly, I sure hope *someone* took a pic of you all 'dolled up'...I'd like to see that one too. ;-))
Tomorrow's DAILY is UP in the Parking Lot...
