A friend gave me a sucker that she dug up from a kwanzan cherry tree. Will it grow up to be just like the parent tree or will it be a wild offspring? I don't know if these trees are grafted or seed grown.
kwanzan cherry
Nice thought, but it's probably a graft -- look closely for a graft line on the parent tree. Still, it possibly could be on its own roots, so if you have extra room, plant it anyway just to see what happens! If nothing else, they make good firewood in a few years, but it might surprise you.

I must admit I've never seen a Kwanzan Cherry that wasn't grafted. The sucker will probably be a black cherry, nice enough on its own for single white flowers.
