Newport, Rhode Island

North Wales, PA(Zone 6a)

Hey ya'll!

I'm vacationing in Newport soon and wanted to know if you knew anything about the place. Restaraunts, sites, and of course nurseries! :)

Thanks--stay cool (literally!).

Don't know about good restaurants, but you MUST go down to Ocean Drive! Beautiful place, with the waves crashing on the rocks! Also, you'll want to visit some of the mansions, and take a walk on Cliff Walk, out behind them.
If you're inclined toward the mansions, the Vanderbuilt's Breakers is quite a "summer" home. Also the U.S. Tennis Association's Hall of Fame is located in Newport, though I've never visited it, myself. You can also take a day trip out to Block Island. A ferry leaves from Ft. Adams Park everyday, around 10 AM (I think). The island is like taking a step back in time, to the turn of the century.
I usually go over half a dozen times a year. Quite a ferry ride too! If you like salt spray on your face, ride the bow deck, and stand at the gunnels! Newport's very nice.
It used to be QUITE the place, during the America's Cup races. A very International crowd came in for that.
Hope that proves to be some help. Have a good time!
