Just starting some leaves

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

that sounds great! you should be fine. The light is optional - it just guarantees a steady number of hours of sufficient light each day, which speeds up the process.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW Deb that's great ! Mine is about that now , as I am happy about also ! Yesterday it only made it to 70 degree's for me and when the sun goes down it seems to cool quickly,
Your on a perfect track :)) Good job ! Don't worry you may not see
babies until Feb, 2006 but once they start coming up it will be fast :))
When I had my two mini greenhouse filled with leaves , once the babies came up they went on trays close under the lights and I started feeding them. Then they took off super fast :)) It's so exciting ! You are going to have hundreds of the cutest babies soon !

I am brand new here and would LOVE to get in on the easter trade.
Is there any way we can unclose it for one more person :)
I have over 60 varieties and would love to share them :)
I am posting them to my trading list slow but sure so people can see what I have!

Send a D-Mail to Critterologist from Frederick. Just click on her names. She is about 9 or 10 messages above mine on this thread. She is the one who arranged for the Swap. I received contact from another person who would also like to join. I gave her the same information. I am sure we can make some kind of arrangements for you to join in the fun.

Welcome to Daves!!!!

I appreciate the interest, but I'm sticking with the "closed" sign on the EB trade. The logistics of trying to add people as we go along are just too confusing, and I want to do a good job of keeping track of things for my first secret trade! If there's interest, somebody can always put together another spring secret trade in addition to the secret EB trade... and I know there will be a flurry of individual trades happening!

Lorry, you have Dmail. :-)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh wow...way cool!
Thanks for sharing!
I need a stand like that!
*laugh* My little one is just not hacking it with all the leaves I am putting down

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Update...I received the heat mat and thermostat I ordered from Park's and have about 60 of the leaves sitting on it as I post. I also purchased two small florescent lights 18" in length and have them in the little greenhouse. Looking forward to seeing some babies.

Alot of the leaves I tug on don't come out of the soil mixture...so I guess they are setting roots.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Update....I see some ears popping up on some of the Trailer leaves I put down. I'll be in and out over the next few days....will let you know how they continue to do when I get some time to get back on Dave's.

Deb

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW Deb that's great ! You have not had them down long , your doing good. Sometimes they grow lots of roots and babies under neath ( ever un-pot one and see all these folded op cute babies !) then it seems one day you wake up to babies looking at you ! Pretty soon your going to have so many plants ! Allison

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Update...here is a picture of one of my leaves I put down on November 11. Of the 20 trailers I put down only 8 are starting to put out ears. Hopefully the others will start to show up in the next week or so. All of the standard leaves I put down do not have ears as of yet...but most are rooted.

After reading about all the bugs...I have sprayed all violets and leaves with a mixture of neem oil and warm water.

WOW it's beautiful ! They have not been down long they'll all be popping up soon ! How exciting :)) Have you been feeding them ? I would feed them weak food drink each time watering :)) It's great Deb ! Thanks for sharing :))

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

PS that is one healthy looking proud Mom leaf :))

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Allison...I just started feeding them today...with a very weak water solution of Peter's AV food. You know me....I'm a new worried mom.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

That's good Deb they sure are looking great ! You will have hundreds of babies soon ! Allison

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

WOW, I just check my noid purple thumbprint leaf that I put down on 12/15 (it's in one of the perlite trays, it had no petiole. And it already has roots. WOW, that's like record time, two weeks.

WOW I saw that write on the leaf so cool lol Did you feed them Eleanor's Vf-11 ?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Nope, just fed them love. I blow them kisses all the time for encouragement. I just checked the leaves on my bedroom plant stand and 90% have roots. How about that! I'll upload photos later. i'm procrastinating paying my bills. I think I'd rather have a root canal! So i'm playing here instead.

I think that's only been about two weeks as well. I am really having luck with that perlite and heat trick!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lorry I have a baby B-Man's Etna for you. One of my Cajun popcorn's nice mom leaves broke off and left her babies very light colored. I think they will still grow up healthy though !
That's great Begonia their rooting super fast for you ! Did you feed them Eleanor's VF-11 ??Are you sure . lol Don't you have some ? Start giving them some or some food !
Make sure you put leaves down from all your plants :))
Root work yuk sorry scarey.
I wish I could go to the Dentist if one would just come to my home and work on me in bed but I can't find anyone :(( My Doctors come to the house !

there looking great! too cute.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh wow their doing so great ! And it's so cold there. It really has not been long sense you put them down. They are healthy cute babies ! I just like the pink's and vareigations in babies. Some adult plants lose their variegation and babies you can get a super variegated baby !
Your going to have a lot of great babies ! Your doing so good ! I love seeing your babies :)) Thanks for sharing ! Allison

Those are great, deb! Thank you for sending the pictures! I've got to get one of those plant stands with the plastic cover.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

You put lights and heat mats in your right Deb ? I never knew how cold it is there.
I have two of them use to use them for leaves but now their used for isolation. There's one on my wish list stronger on wheels comes with light fixtures and grow lights and for all the cost is not bad. It's just on my wish list. lol

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Yep Allison...I ended up putting them under lights and also used a heat mat. I put all my leaves down around Nov 11....and some of them still don't have ears. The twenty different leaves of trailers I put down, all came through with ears except one...it bit the dust.

I still have quite a few of the standards that have not put ears up yet.

This has been quite a learning experience for me and has really been a lot of fun and very rewarding.

Deb

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Your doing great ! I'm glad you put lights and heat it's so cold there. If not you may have no babies up yet. I find trailers root faster. Your leaves and babies are so healthy ! 2 months is not really long I'd start counting from the time you put lights and heat mats. Have you fed them yet ? Now that they have started coming up in an other month those cups will be over flowing !
Great growing ! I love seeing your babies ! Allison

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Yes Allison I feed them with Eleanor's VF-11 every time I water them. And just like a good mom, I check on them several time each day. :)

Deb
