Roots on an established Brug.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

We are having a Master Gardener Plant Sale on the 19th, and I am donating a bunch of growing Brugs. in 2 gallon pots. I put them out on the stone wall in front of the house so they would get more sun...and then the rains started. Day after day after day!!! (we had 6" of rain in 5 minutes!!! I kid you not!) Now these potted brugs are sporting 1" roots coming out of the stems from the soil level UP 5". I will fill the pots up as far as I can.... Talk about GROWTH!!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Carol, that happened to me in a bubbler - it started rooting all over the brug, including the part that was not in the water, whew! I wish these suckers were that happy all year round, huh?? Yours sound wonderful, send photos!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Such a hard life you lead there in Hawaii, Carol. LOL! We should all send our brugs to you to root for us.

OK, I am now green with envy! I am going out tonight and my skin won't match my dress. LOL

Listen, what kind of ginger is that? I need one. I have a yellow variegated one and I am getting Dr. Moy soon, sooner if that is a Dr. Moy. LOL

I have given up on Medinilla, I do not think it was meant to be.

Good luck on your sale Carol. They all look just great. hae you been able to root Rk easily there?

LOL Kell! So long as your skin is a complimentary shade, you won't have to worry. ;)
Carol, oh how I wish I could zip over there and snip a piece of each of those and zip back over here. Kinda like a thief in the night. Not a big piece, you understand...
Good luck with your MG sale! !

Barb

Barb,
I'm thinking she should just cut them up and send us pieces. LOL.

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Crystal... I was thinking that but.. well, I didn't want to seem greedy! We could send a donation to her MG sale on behalf of a couple of extremely appreciative recipients!!

:-)

I think you have something going there, BJF. Donations would help her out, brugs would help us out. Win, Win situation! LOL

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

LOL!! Works for me! She's already enabled me exceedingly well with my Hoya addiction! You should see all the neat ones I got from her. Outstanding specimens!!! (brown-nosing here.. can ya tell??) But it be de troof! :-D

We country folk don't have names for things....what does Dr. Moy look like?

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

Carol, I lo-o-ove your varigated ginger! Any idea where I can get one? Would you happen to know its name? I've seen the varigated with the yellow and green (like Kell's), but never that green and cream. Where did you get it?

Hmmmm. I forget. But let me ask a nursery friend of mine and see if she has it. YES...it is beautiful! Lights up a corner!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh shoot, no it is not Dr. Moy. Dr. Moy has a totally different flower.

For those variegated plant nuts out there, here comes a true breakthrough. From retired plant breeder, Dr. Moy of the San Antonio Botanic Gardens, comes this new hybrid (probably H. flavum x coccineum) with white paint-like speckles covering the otherwise green foliage. In September, the clumps are topped with fragrant, peachy orange flowers with a darker orange throat... exquisitely fragrant!

PLEASE find out the name of yours, Carol!! I will be on the hunt. LOL

The Dr. Moy I saw had a lot more variegation than the ones I am seeing on google as Dr. Moy. Here is one I may go get today.

I have a friend with some of the ginger I put the picture of above. I will post her email address this afternoon (when I get it) and you can write her directly....
