never hurts to have a couple of spare whoas laying around. LOL
CLERODENDRUM PHILIPPINUM
had musical notes too. Is very pretty
Okay Donna B, that site is gonna get me in trouble!!! I ordered the musical note...I've been coveting that one for sometime, they also had another clero on special so I snagged that one. It took me a couple of days to go through the site. I scanned everything, and they have very cool stuff! I even started a wish list.
Well, we are about to find out tonight if my giant butterfly clero is going to take a freeze. It is pretty cold for here! It's been in the 30's all day, and there are some forecasst of snow around the area. If it's not too windy I will be covering the clero up in a frost cloth along with my rubber tree. I stacked a foot of leaves over each of them.
So trackinsand...did you go through that website?
Rj
Rj, zuzu turned me on to that site (toptropicals) awhile back. i haven't ordered from them yet, but.......well, you know. i'm frothing at the mouth for everything they have!!! LOL debi
rj...I have the butterfly and it has survived a few years. Just dies and come back so far.
Oh yeah I was too, I had to delete a few things from my cart. I'd seen some of the things on Karutz green house but alot of them were sold out. Karutz, starts out much smaller too. I have about 5 plants from them in the green house, they're all doing very well. I've never ordered something as big as the ones Top sends out. Those are some hefty sized containers. Are there any other treasure sites you know about?
Rj
Okay..thanks - I hope it doesn't die back though! It's next to my pond, which I think keeps it a tad warmer than the rest of the area. My Java Glory Vine, Heart Vine, (Clerodendrum x speciosum) is just starting to bloom too. It seems to like the cold weather.
Rj
Hey Debi, did your butterfly clero come back? I am starting a couple of cuttings.
Rj
Rj, i have mostly been checking out roses lately, no tropicals. the winters here, (this is our second one) are alittle colder than i thought they would be. our house is situated on a lake that gets a fierce wind coming across it from time to time too. to tell you the truth i am having to re-think the tropicals i still have and figure out where to put them. it's either too windy, too sunny, etc. i am getting ready to plunge headlong into the rose world. i never had roses, never wanted roses, never liked roses. suddenly (thanks to zuzu and the rose forum) i am rose crazy and seeing all sorts of wonderful possibilities for this new house. it doesn't mean i don't still love tropicals and i will never give up all of my tropical books. hopefully i will retain the knowledge i gained in the keys and be able, in the future, to figure out a place for them.
i never had much luck with the butterfly. it seemed the most sensative to salt air. the quaduloculare was right up their with the phillipinum as far as favorites go.
Okay. Funny about the roses, I feel the same way you did. I may have to go check out the rose forum then. I have some Roses I don't do anything to, and they really bloom well. I am having to re-landscape the front yard, but have visions of cool tropical, and Texas native stuff. *POP*, oh was I day dreaming again!!?
Good luck with the roses, are you going for any climbing roses? Those look spectacular!
Rj
Rj, i just thought of a great "new" plant that just might knock your socks off. Amicia zygomeris. i saw it in the ID forum awhile back and it finally got identified. i was nuts for it and found it at www.plantdelights.com. i got a small one, about a foot high, in mid-september. it is still in a pot and is about 4' tall and blooming it's fool head off as we speak. it is one of the most unusual plants i've ever seen, from the leaves to the stem to the flower, all around neat. come on over to the roses, you will be a believer by the time you peruse all of the threads. i have my first ones coming in january, so far just the shrub roses. debi
Oh good. I loved the top site, so I'm going for whirl to this one. I know this must be an addiction. I can't throw any plants away. I have an entire section of my back yard that is potted up for give aways and trades. I like the Jungle look, so my garden has become self perpetuating. I don't think I've started any new plants for a while, I just pick them out of the pots, or the ground where the seeds have dropped at. I have papayas, candlestick trees, night jasmine, daturas, brugs, java gloryoy, yesterday today, tomorrow, impasiens, chocolate plants, alocasias, 4 oclocks, amaranthus all growing on their own just like a little jungle. I just can't toss anything! One thing though, is the butterfly clero throws out these berries, but I haven't seens any new ones grow except for the cuttings I've done, and then the cuttings take about 1.5 years before the first blooms start.
okay..now will go visit that site..blahblahblabla..:)
Rj
Oooooh, Rj! You have yesterday, today and tomorrow and java glory and brugs.......sigh.
:) Donna
Donna, didn't mean to hijack! btw, your "room" is almost ready. we are very close to moving in and the mother-in-law is done except for the kitchen. i hope you can visit! debi
Yes, I have both..want some? the yesterday today and tommorrow, I'm not sure what variety it is,since there seems to be quite alot, but it grows pretty slowly. Of course, if I paid a bit more attention to them, any how.. I have one java glory left, as I've just mailed out a couple that I've found in the ground, but noticed another one this week. You can email me your address. It may take a couple of weeks for me to get them out.
Debi,
that is one cool looking plant..and another site of treasures...It sore of looks like a peanut plant, although it says 7' high? I seem to end up with giant things. I have black currant swirls - I call them mutants, because they grew 10-12 feet high, I had to prop them up! the zygomeris would fit right in.
Rj
Alright I'm off to put some frost cloths out. Thanks for the web sites!
Rj
I wish you could mail them now, Rj. It's very cold here compared to where you are. Maybe in the new year when it's much warmer if you still have some. Thanks for the offer.
Debi, oh goodie! I'm hoping to still come down next year...not sure when yet.
:) Donna
i will have that dark blue flower you wanted too. tempt, tempt.
What other things can you tempt me with.....just kidding...lol.
how about sunny skys, warm air, lake breeze and a big ole gator! LOL
That sounds good to me except for the big ole gator! Shudder......lol!
:) Donna
a good e-Bay seller is Dogwood@eritter.net
He has great plants, small but healthy and so affordable. I have been ordering from him for a couple of years now and have never had a problem. I usually order and save the extras for the plant swaps he is so cheap. Ex. 6 passiflorias for 6 dollars. He will open back up in spring but I usually like to wait until about May. I don't like getting dormant plants because I end up killing them. I want them actively growing when I recieve them
Okay, I will have the ytt plants for sure - I will try to practice on vine propagation in between then. Looks like the cleros made it through the night, but were some datura and brug casualties.
How do you find good plant sellers on ebay without spending forever groing through tons of uninteresting things?
Rj
