You can see this corner of the island as you come in the front door, and I like to put at least a couple of the AVs that are blooming here. Although my kitchen gets pretty bright light, they aren't happy here long term, but it's such a nice place to show them off for a few weeks!
blooms brightening my kitchen!
Closeup of an AV from my MIL... I started it from a leaf, but her plant came from The Violet Carousel in Winston-Salem, NC. It's probably a registered variety, but my MIL threw the tag away because it didn't look pretty in the pot with the plant. Nanna thought she recognized it, but now I don't rememer what she thought it was -- one of the optimara violets, I think she said.
I posted this on Nanna's thread but have to post here too.... I just love the blooms on this noid she gave me! It has stopped a couple of people dead in their tracks this week as they entered the kitchen. :-)
The other huge violet in the picture is 'Buckeye Boysenberry' -- the flowers are really purple rather than blue, but my camera is funny that way.
I LOVE that pink variegation! Good for you! Oh, and those "ugly" tags.....I could kick myself now.......I used to have that in common with you MIL. lol
=)
edited to mention that I'm referring to the violet w/pink blossoms.....with the no-name mentionings....

'Child's Play' is DARLING!!! Nice closeup.....and I really like the chimeral looking red w/stripes blooms too.
Thanks for the compliments, MKJ! I wonder if that plant will come true from a leaf, or if it really is a chimera.... I think this one came from a sucker on Nanna's plant. It does have that pinwheel chimera look, doesn't it?
Gorgeous ! I like moving my plants around like this also. Your plants are soo Gorgeous !
Well done, Jill.
Great reminder of our trip. The plants are displayed beautifully.
Nanna
Those are beautiful Citter....You evidently have a green thumb :)
You have some beautiful plants Critter.

Most of these are new, deb, so I'm not sure my thumb can take much credit! I've got my other AVs mostly under lights now, so hopefully I'll have more blooms to show off soon. :-)
Thought you all might be interested in this bit of information Jill and I picked up at Violet Gallery. The very brightly colored NOID she has in her kitchen is one of three suckers from the original plant. Once I separated the suckers I noticed dark splotches on the leaves of the mother plant. I thought I had introduce my collection to a virus. But on close inspection I found the underside of the leaf was red only where the dark blotches appeared on the top. Interesting, huh?
I asked what it might be and was informed that it was a birth mark. Probably, parts of the leaf sporting back to one of the original parents.
This is the top on the leaves
Your AVs are stunning.
beautiful shiny leaves, and luscious blooms!
Nanna, I'd be freaking if I saw that colour on my plants - a birthmark??
nice to know!
I know exactly what you mean. I did freak out.
Nanna
