Photos from this past week

Trelleborg, Sweden

Hi! My hoyas don't seem to know it's nearly winter. Several are in buds and several are blooming right now. I'm posting some photos from this past week to brighten up the darkness (at least we have that!).

Dang Christina, you are killing me! Is there a day that goes by that you do not have something in bloom? I only had a couple Hoyas on my wish list until I saw a picture of the H. wallichii. What is the fragrance like on that one?
As usual, your picures are absolutely spectacular!

Trelleborg, Sweden

Thank you for the comments! Yes Mel, there are days when I don't have hoyas blooming... Can't remember when it was last though...!

H. wallichii has almost no fragrance but if you stick your nose in the flowers you can detect a vague citrus like smell.

I just have to add that thomsonii smells in the WHOLE house with 5 umbels open.

Christina, I'm gonna be honest...I am so green with envy!
Those are beautiful.
Congratulations!!

All I can say is Wow!! They're all just gorgeous Christina. To have so many in bloom at once must be heavenly. Your house must smell wonderful. It's difficult to pick a favourite but I must say that the last one is extra special.

I'm in awe as always. Gorgeous blooms!!!

Not only are Christinas' photos exquisite...her hoya blooms are beyond the bar. I am in awe and jealous and envious and all the bad things a woman is not supposed to feel......unless she collects hoyas...and then it is normal and expected. Right?

You´re the Photo-Queen Christina!!!!
Love your hoyas and your hoya pics.....

Especially that picture of curtisii....if mine could do the same...
By the way Christina, is Hoya curtisii difficult to get in blooom? There´s not so many pictures of this hoya in bloom... and i know that people use to borrow your old curtisii pic..... ;-)

Christina - what can I add - BEAUTIFUL pictures and flowers!! Please keep posting these, as they are such encouragment to this newbie! And Carol, I feel all those same things, so let's just say it's normal, ok?? Karen

Wow!! I can't believe you grow those hoyas in the house!! It just kills me with envy. You truly have the midas touch. Out of curiousity, does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to root curtsii. I have never had much luck with keeping that baby alive. Just killed a huge 10" pot from EA. Would like to try to root some of it before I throw it all away!!

Here is one more from this morning. I knew I had two different caudatas in my pot, but I didn't know it was the white and the yellow one. In the photo I'm holding two umbels (growing next to each other) close together and I really like the yellow one! The white smells like onychoides (=gardenia) but the yellow has no fragrance at all. I had missed two umbels because they fell down when I moved the plant, but there are plenty more coming! I've never had more than one umbel open at the same time before...

I hope you like it!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful plants with us. You have a gift for growing plants and having them thrive for you. Your plants look so well cared for and loved.
Karen

Wow...that is neat seeing the two right there together. I think the yellow is pretty, but I would prefer the one that smelled like gardenias. It would be neat if someone could combine the two into a great smelling yellow hybred.
Mine has never bloomed for me. Do you keep yours any different than the other hoyas? Thanks for all your great photos.

Outstanding, Christina! The clarity of that last pic is incredible. You have a unique ability not only with plants, but with the camera also. Fantastic!!

I really like it Christina. You've created a gorgeous picture putting the two colours together like that.

Christina you sure seem to have a magic touch in getting your Hoyas to bloom. So many Hoyas in bloom at the same time, you lucky girl. Your photos really shows the beauty of each flowering umbel.

I just added H. salweenica to my wish list.

Christina, beautiful photos. I just don't know how you get the profuse blooms, but sure would like the secret!

I found H. obscura longipedunculata, and I am loving your flower on this one, and of course the extra long peduncle. Def. on my spring order list. Do you think you could post another photo of this one, and show more of the leaves, and of course another flower photo would be great too!!! Thanks Christina for your lovely photo's

Tami, try this link for more photos of my obscura: http://www.myhoyas.com/Hoya%20obscura%20min.htm (There should be quite a few, but if it isn't enough I have more!)

Thanks for all your comments. Cembra is about to open some flowers soon so there will be more photos later.

Heather,

Try laying the curtisii cuttings down on some damp long fiber spagnum moss with maybe 2 nodes of the cutting IN the moss. Use an old fashioned hairpin to hold the cutting down on the moss. Grow warm, lots of water but not soggy soil and in the shade with bright indirect light.

SandyC has sent me some of the most beautiful pots of EA hoyas....and all but one has croaked. I HATE that grower with their wetting crystals!!! Hoyas DO NOT like to be suffocated in soil and water...and I admire anyone who can grow them!!! Heather, if you want some cuts to start...dmail me.

I promised some more and here they are! First one out is cembra which just started to open. I've counted 13 buds, but not sure all will open...

Second out this time is litoralis. I had this one in the first round, but this umbel is really weird. Only one normal flower so far, but they all have five corolla lobes...

Next one is obovata with its last flowers this year.

One of the surprices this year has been polyneura. It has 6 umbels open right now and one is a lot paler than the rest. Here it is:
