I have 10 - 12 ft Emerald Arbor Vitae. Can you trim these back and if so, how much? Thanks for your help.
Can Emerald Arbor Vitae be successfully trimmed?
Just stay within the "green" zone -- don't stub any branches back to old wood.

Thank you for your reply....... About how long will it take for new growth to appear in the areas I trim?
The growth cycle starts in spring, regardless of when you trim. But keep in mind that shearing will be a constant job once begun. Consider leaving them to grow naturally unless you really need to trim them for some reason. Emerald is naturally compact anyway and may not need shearing for density or form. (Of course, I have a big prejudice toward natural, informal plants -- your taste may differ!)

Thank you, Guy. These happen to be planted between my driveway and my neighbor's driveway and I would prefer not having to trim them -- but if the branches start scratching my car, I may have to trim a bit.
