I'm finally getting lots of blooms on my Sanguinea. All the other brugmansias are looking awful in the cool, rainy, windy weather we've been having but this one seems to love it.

Sanguinea
That is just too cool. I love it. Do you leave it out all winter? I know when I had mine the winter never bothered it at all even if we had frost.
Do you know Jeanne? She has fantastic sangs too.
Yes, I sure do know Jeanne. Most of the brugs I have are thanks to her. I grew this plant from one of her seeds.
I'm afraid that it won't survive the winter outside so I'm planning to put it in the garage....if I have room. My solarium is full and I have quite a few I want to put in the garage. I'll let it get some frost....I'm going to enjoy the blooms as long as possible.
Do you know the cross? Lucky you., Jeanne really knows her brugs and has great ones. I hope it over winters well for you. It sure is a beauty!
Thanks, it's Peach x Red. Yes, Jeanne sure has some nice brugs and is a wealth of information. I love visiting her and all her gorgeous plants.
Someday I am going to visit Jeanne too. She has promised me fresh salmon just caught and Thai cooking. I also want to meet the famous Oscar. He is such a lover dog.
Those seem like big blooms too for a sang. I love sang leaves, I wish other brugs had them too.
Sandy it's gorgeous. I have 2 buds on this cross that you started for me. The first should be opening with in the next few days.
Kell, you'll have to come up here. we could have 'let's meet Kell RU', and enjoy Oscar. He really is just a big lap dog.
Kell, you'd have lots of fun visiting Jeanne. She's an excellent cook and Oscar's a hoot....definitely a big lap dog. I love the leaves on sanguineas too.
I'm glad you're getting some buds on yours too Linda. Are those your first ones? We were talking about having a mini RU. That would be a good excuse and what fun!!
Wouldn't that be fun!! Though I need to come when I can see all the roses in bloom ( I am a rose lover too) and all her brugs in their glory. And now I want to come when Téa is there also. What a little beauty! Oh to have a baby again.
What a wonderful picture....and since Kell metioned the leaves they remind me of datura leaves...how interesting...the color of the flowers are so bright..I am drooling here....Judy
too precious! love the photo, I have gotten some red sang. cuttings and have been rooting them, noticed yesterday they started to get nubbies, I am gonna plant them up soon!!
Congrats on your beauty!
Beautiful. Nightowl.
That is a beauty, wish I could grow them. Too hot here.
Thanks. I see there are still blooms left on it so I'll try to get a close-up picture. We had a terrible wind storm up here last night and I'm surprised to see any flowers left out in the garden.
That sounds great Jeanne. What a cool picture of Oscar.
Seems like nature hates it when we have brug blooms!
Oh Jeanne, what a fantastic picture. What a look in his eyes. Seems human. I love his ears too. If I get to have a Boxer, I would want ears like that. I just love Oscar's expressive face.
It would be so out of character for me to go anywhere, but I sure would like to!!
Yes, the storm last night was really wicked. I was thinking about you Jeanne and wondering how your brugs were doing. You're so much more exposed to the wind where you are. I'm not surprised that you have a tree down as I'm sure there must be many down. What a drag....right on your new deer fence. Did it hit any of the beds in your garden?
Your bloom looks great Jnette. I think you need pollen from another plant but I'm not an expert.
I really hate to sound like a dummy here but is a Sanguinea a brug? Or is Sanguinea just the name of the brug, or is it all together a different type of brug?
Hard to beat those pics. I do love the look of sangs. Just gorgeous. I love how different both sangs look. I wonder which yours is, Jeanette. Jeanne has some peach ones I recall.
Can't Jeanette's sister just help it to self pollinate, Jeanne? I will say when I have my huge, huge bush sang, I only had a few pods on it in all the years I had it. Though I might have had them and never noticed. I found them when I was cutting it down. But I couldn't have had many for they were very large and stay on for 9 months or so. Hard to miss then that long.
My arborea though self pollinates just about every bloom.
What a shame Jeanne about your tree. Thank goodness you had most of your special brugs inside already. I guess I need to get the hoophouse up very soon.
My sister has 2 of the Sangs, each about 6 ft tall and blooming good. One in each end of her greenhouse which is 25 feet long. BUT, they both came frorm the same batch of seeds. Does that matter?
So what if I go into her greenhouse, while she is on vacation, LOL, and pollenate a couple? Then what would I do? Do you cover the flower with something? Or would I just flag them to let her know what I did so she doesn't cut the dead flower and throw it away?
Kell, I would have to go back and see if I could find out what they were when I bought the seeds. I thought I was getting red. Well after seeing Sandy's, they obviously aren't red.
Your reds are just beautiful. I like them both. Wonder if Whatcom has both colors? I also gave my daughter some seeds. She is anxious for hers to bloom now.
sandy, gorgeous, gorgeous blooms.
Sandy that is simply gorgeous!!! I just received some red sang cuttings that I've got in water to root. My special sang seeds didn't bloom this year, but when they do next year maybe if you like them we can do a trade?
:) Donna
I'm on a mission. LOL Jeanette
Good luck Jeanette. I think it would be cool to get a seed pod. I have a couple of plants but unfortunately only one is blooming, otherwise I'd try it too. Jeanne advised me that it's a good idea to start new plants from seeds every 2-3 years because sangs get virused. Too bad we couldn't exchange some pollen but sending white powder across the border probably wouldn't be a good idea. lol I like the colour of yours.
I was hoping somebody else might answer your question 2pugdogs since I'm pretty new to brugs. Sanguineas are a species of brugmansia. I think like everything they've been hybridized to create a few different colours but I think they're usually red. I don't know if any have been given names like the other brugs. I think they're just named by the colour, peach sanguinea, red sanguinea, etc. I believe there's one called "Lilac" which would be interesting to see.
Thanks Donna. Because of the virus problem it might be better to start them from seed.
Sandy~Sandy Sandy....
Thanks for the close ups. They are just beyond words with that deep rich color. Such beauties! I see you got the wind storm also. It was a nasty night and morning here also.
Jeanette, I love the suttle color in yours also! How happy you must be having some blooms. WTG!!!
Thanks again for sharing and taking the time to get those shots.
Sandy the reds you have are soo red!
I have a mobisu x arborea blooming now, it just came out, and Sandy the sang you startedform seed that has bloomed for everyone else, is finally about to open. It looks very red compared to the mobisu x arborea. i will try and pollenate these and try to get seeds.
I'll keep ya posted.
Linda
I agree, Kin. Let us know if your sister gets pods, Jeanette! Please!
You're welcome Kin, thanks for the compliments. I'm going to have to post pictures more often. lol So you got that storm too. Do you have any sanguineas? Obviously you have the kind of growing conditions they like also. I was looking at some gorgeous pictures of your awesome garden yesterday. You have some lovely brugs.
Linda, that would be really cool if you could get some pods going. Are these the first blooms on your mobisu x arborea? I want to see some pictures.
