pretty color here.
Akatsuki no Tsuyu
Very pretty color. I like the leaves on this one.
Thanks, I do love the pretty varigation and shape of these leaves too.
What a beauty!
Susan
Laurri, those are just beautiful. You have such beautiful morning glories.
thanks everyone :) there is always something new out there to try!! I love seeing how they do here in zone 5 growing conditions!!
Yes Joseph they were really vibrant, but other than a little color variation, I really didn't see much difference from it and Blue Silks, and I have also seen so many variations of the colors this year of Blue Silks, they seem paler now compared to recent years, anyone else notice this?
Perhaps it would be interesting to take note if the "Akatsuki no Tsuyu" will also exhibit color fading with progressive generations, and if it does, then any possible distinctions between the BS and the ANT will fade along with the forthcoming generations...
I personally think that the ANT may(!) be a darker cultivar of the BS,but since this may only be a somewhat partially displayed transient feature, any possible currently visible features may also be just as transient...Nice type either way...
TTY'all,...
I definitely will be growing them again next year to see if they remain the same or lighten up any, it's so interesting!
This year again I grew all mine in pots, I ended up moving ANT next to the BS pot so I could get a really good close up look at them side by side, they did look similar, I should have drug the pot right up the the other one and butted them together for a photo! If I am remembering correctly, the ANT seemed to me to be a tad more "ruffley" or 'wrinkled" looking compared to the BS........will continue to observe!!!
It's gorgeous, Laurrie!
:) Donna
Thanks!
A real beauty, Laurrie.
Thanks! I have been noticing "some" differences between Akatsuki no Tsuyu and Blue silks, my blue silks don't set seed as heavily at least not as heavy as the Tsuyu does, I bet I get 600 percent more set seed pods on the Tsuyu compared to the blue silk. just my observations I am noting here to keep track of.
Hi Laurri,
Have you noticed if the arrangement of the anthers in relation to the stigma is the same(?)...is the height of the fully developed stamens the same in both cultivars...do the pollen sacs on the BS always open up fully, look as fluffy with pollen as the ANT...
The 'Blue Silks' that are circulating in the US may have become more inbred with a more restricted gene pool, and this could result in higher self-infertility with lowered overall fertility...
Just some thoughts...
Ron, funny you should ask this,
the anthers on the ANT are lower than the stigma,
however on the BS the anthers are reaching only about the same height as the stigma.
But yes to the pollen sacs, they are always fully open and fluffy with pollen on both variety.
BUT with Blue Silks the stamen is NOT reaching out as far as the stamen does on the ANT.
Which in my mind, would think with the anthers above the stigma, you'd have better success with pollination? or am I backwards?
Wow, that is just gorgeous!
Brenda
