species clarification

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I see now we have to add species when submitting a new entry. If the plant is a hybrid, should we be putting that in for species?

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm bringing this back up to the top. Hope nobody minds.

I've been working on the iris genus, mostly the bearded ones. Due to many decades of hybridizing, bearded iris are no longer assigned to a specific species. Most are hybrids.

Joan, I agree - it's inappropriate to give a specific epithet to most Irises unless they are a true species.

Unfortunately this is a temporary glitch in our system, due to a miscommunication between Dave and me. It's unlikely to be fixed before morning :-(

No problem. I can work around that now that I know what direction I'm to go. :) Thanks.

Terry, if we temporarily used 'hybrid' for the species, can the PlantFiles editors delete it? Or does this 'glitch' extend to existing entries as well?

Here's my one and only entry for today that luckily (?) fits that situation: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/114912/index.html

We can delete your work-arounds, but it will be a manual process.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we can go back and fix our own entries by using "Edit This Entry" after the glitch is fixed, right? I only have two, and I know which two they are and will fix them after all is well again.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

yes, that is correct on all counts ;o)

Ah, I never used the "Edit this entry" feature before! It also allowed me to delete the species just now, so none of the Admins had to get involved. Yay!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Got mine fixed too. :)

Many thanks, ladies!
