As you already know, a person has to be careful when they buy arborea seeds. They might not be the real arborea. Some people still sell arborea seeds that grow up to be white suaveolens lookalikes. Hopefully when you receive the seeds you can tell for sure by looking at the seedcoat if it is really a suaveolens seed or a true arborea seed. A couple of months ago I bought arborea seeds for a friend from that auction place. I knew if anyone could tell the difference at first glance he would be able to. Doggone it ... The seeds he got were pre-peeled! ha! lol! He never peels his seeds to germinate and neither one of us knows if there is a difference between the actual seed kernels. Can you set a suaveolens seed kernel side by side with an arborea kernel and tell them apart? I don't know the answer. Does anyone else?
The arborea seedling I grew in 1998-1999. This is what you might get today.
arborea seeds
I also purchased seeds listed as Aborea that looks just like yours. I sent the person an e-mail and got put on IGNORE. LOL
OK
You got the better part of my curiosity with this one!! LOL
And I didn't want to go to bed without seeing it for myself and have a restless sleep over it..
All kidding aside now.
I have a white suaveolens hybrid that I just harvested a pod from. I also have some arborea seeds. In the picture Suav. is on the Left and Arborea is on the Right.
I don't peel mine either but just had to do this so I can see in person if there is a difference.
This is the best picture I got hope you can see it ok.
Good pic. You sure can tell the difference. I had 2 Arborea plants, self pollinated. Have tried at different times to start the seeds, have not had the first seed come up??
Gloria, I got some arborea seeds from Kell, and some from Poppysue last winter. I started all of them in rockwool the first week of January, and didn't get any to sprout until this summer. The peeled beans were down in the rockwool, and I could see (and poke with a toothpick to be sure) that they were still good. I ended up with 2 from Kell, and 1 from Poppysue. The Poppysue one sprouted LAST month! Don't give up on them too quickly, if you still have beans, you might get plants!
Thanks, Ronna, I still have hope, then.
You can sure tell the difference in the seeds. I have a few seedlings growing, I got the seeds from one of the brug groups but they don't look like arborea. I also brought a couple of plants on ebay and neither one of those are arborea either.
