CLOSED: Have lily longiflorum (?) seed to trade

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I have what I'm not sure is lily longiflorum seed to trade. I grew it for a couple of seasons w/o any doubts as to it's ID, as it was a marked plant. I can't find in my notes where or how I got it. I think it was an left-over 'Easter' lily at church. [This is not the same one that I got this past yr, BTW.] This summer some of the "stalks" grew to almost 6 ft and I didn't think 'Easter' lilies got that tall. I posted on the lily forum and learned lilies do sometimes get bigger than normal range. It's winter hardy here in z7b and stays in the ground year 'round with no fuss or care at all. Wish I had a digicam so I could show how big it was. It has now died down.

Would folks still want seed knowing that it might not be l. longiflorum but an unknown tall white lily? I want to be honest about this so as not to mislead people.

Based on the response I get, I will later post how many trades I have of it and what I'd like to trade for.

I am editing this to let y'all know that I found the invoice where I ordered 3 lily bulbs from McClure and Zimmerman in 2004. According to the invoice, they are indeed lily longiflorum!!
Thanks!!

Lilium formosanum, which blooms in late-ish summer (as opposed to the early-mid summer of Easter lilies, is usually at least 5 feet tall, quite often taller. Formosa blooms are not as long as longiflorum, and not as "perfectly" formed.

Maybe the nursery used fomosa stock for their Easter lily crop.
It *is* unusual for longis to get that tall.
Well done!

There may be other ways of being certain which you have. Good luck.

raydio.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks all for the input. I am sorry I haven't gotten back to the thread but I am having back problems.

Raydio, I don't think it is formosa. I also have some of those and they don't look like my unknowns. Formosas have the "grass"-like foliage and my unknowns have "regular" lily foliage. These lilies also bloomed earlier this summer. But thanks for the help!! [P.S have some kin in your neck of the woods-LOL!!]

I will post again soon with the # of trades I have and my wish list- as soon as my back is better. I am in the addy exchange.

I have LOTS of just-harvested marigold seeds for 'Sophia Gold.' I've grown this strain only for years, and it comes back true. The plant is very bushy, 16-18" tall, and blooms nonstop from late spring until frost. I took the attached photo today, and the plant is a bit burned from light frost a couple of weeks ago. If interested, just let me know how many seeds you would like.

Thanks,
Patricia

I have sweet william and cleome.

I also have a ton of recently harvested oriental lily seed from Lilium 'Black Beauty' that I crossed with L. Casablanca and L. 'Silver Realm'. I think this one wants 3 months at 70 degrees F, then 3 at 40 degrees F (refrigerator) and then back to 3 at 70 degrees F. I have never grown an oriental lily as vigorous, spreading and prolific as this one and hope to see a color range from white through pink through crimson in the offspring. Black Beauty is not fragrant, but the other two are powerfully fragrant, so am also hoping for the offspring to have some fragrance, too.

Let me know, also, if you're interested - have a lot of seed.

Woofens,
I am soo very sorry to hear you aren't well. PLEASE know I wasn't scolding you- just wanted to issue a gentle reminder.
My brother suffers greatly from migraines and I see how it affects him.

PLEASE know you are in my prayers today for a speedy recovery. Your seeds aren't going anywhere- they're waiting patiently for you.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh I know that :) I just have a hard time keeping track of things when I get like this. I'm better today (only 1 prescription pill so far) and I'm gonna try to get a bit caught up :)

Thanks for your patience

Berry, some time this week - perhaps by Saturday - will send you seed of:

tall, mixed sweet william
cleome (pink)
and the oriental lily seeds I mentioned above - oodles

Would anyone else like some? I really do have an awful lot of lily seed, so there's enough for everyone to experiment with in germinating with different ways. If so, would you send me an SASBE with a self-addressed label and 49 cents in stamps inside? Be sure to include your DG moniker and which seeds you want.

Or! trade would be fine - am interested in different kinds of leafy greens like Cos/Romaine lettuce or Chinese brassicas like Mizuna or Bok Choy or mustards or kale or frilly endive. Have other perennial flower seed.

waving at Sorgina --

hope you're taking it easy Woofens - I wonder how a bath with a couple drops of lavender essence (or lavender tied in cheese cloth tied to bath tub spout) would do?

Flemingsburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I sent out sasbe. Sorry I am soooo slow. Trying to get everything cleaned up outside before it gets cold. Thank you so much.

Karen,
I'd love some of your lily seeds. I don't have anything to trade that you've asked for, but I can certainly send a SASBE.
Thanks!

Berrygirl, I hope I'm not messing up your thread - this is just to say that this morning I am sending seeds of Lilium 'Black Beauty' x L. 'Casablanca' and x 'Silver Realm to:

Berrygirl (+swt will & cleome)
Lilystorm

lilyhostaky

I haven't received SASBEs w/49c stamp/label
from everyone, so am sending out anyway. If anyone wants to go ahead and send SASBE etc., that will be very welcome to offset costs for me in the future.

Patrob???

Thank you for this trade, Berrygirl - am looking forward to planting your L. longiflorum - my nose is already twitching :)
