This is growing out of the bottom of one of my pots. It resembles some type of conv. Anybody got any ideas? The vine itself has a stocky solid feel to it and is dark in color. The leaves are fairly far apart.

rylaff - The leaves remind me of Ipomoea muelleri...can you post a photo of the growing tip...also,are there any flowerbuds in sight(?)...

Could it be obscura or turbinata?

Maybe Ipomoea muelleri?

Dennis - The seeds you posted look very muelleri looking and combined with the features of the plant,I think it is very certain that the plant you posted is definitely Ipomoea muelleri...I haven't had any success finding another common name for them other than the PMG...The Australian aborigines use them to make some sort of poison to catch fish with...

Lisa - I think your leaves are still very muelleri looking, even though they are showing more rounded upper lobes that abut...there's 15 or 20 different strains that I'm aware of from different localities in Australia...the same plant can often produce a more pointy cordate shape as well as the more rounded lupper lobes and overall shape...
Ipomoea obscura has leaves that are very I.purpurea looking...and the Ipomoea turbinata is rarely thatrounded looking...I'm sticking with the Ipomoea muelleri ID until or unless I see something that proclaims different...
TTY'all,

I will watch it vigilently for signs of a bloom to verify that it is muelleri. Stay tuned yall.

I. turbinata would have spiny stems.

Have you had I.muelleri before? I'm wondering where the stray seed might have come from.....maybe you could trace it that way.

Good luck.

To my knowledge I have not planted them before. However, it is possible. I have been known to recycle potting soil at times and this one grew out of a hole in a pot at the bottom.
