Hiya fellow bulb lovers,
Last year I was able to send out about 120 bulbs of Zephyranthes candida to people who sent SASEs. I sent about a dozen to each person that requested them. I had a good year with my plants and figure I can do about 15 offers this year. Anyone interested should contact me privately. Here's a pic of the Patch. They are lovely flowers, and the grassy foliage stays evergreen in milder climates. As previously stated I'll send 12 or so for an SASE.

Oh, how I wish they were hardy in my area... (5b). They're lovely.
hiya woodthrush,
nice to meet you.
I'll be happy to send them to you, yet I can't be sure that they'll be winter hardy for you in the ground. Just send me a dmail as previously mentioned and we'll get the bulb rolling.
best,
don

Don, I got some from you in the spring, but they got dug up by the dog when he was burying a bone. I did not realize until later and most did not make it. Since they aren't flying out of your hands can I possibly have some more?

hmmm, dog ate my homework? Well as a doggie owner (4) that sounds like as good a reason as any. Same drill as last season and good to see you again. Actually I'm digging close to 500 of the rascals this season to accomodate all of the folks who reserved plants from last year's offer...lol. I only had 15 to spare in the open.

Well, I can wait until spring or later and would hate to take them from anyone else. I have been watching this since you posted 8 days ago just in case. :)
Your little digger is a cutie pie. My golden is not much of a digger except for when it's stormy or he gets an occasional large bone. He usually looks for soil that is nice & soft.
I will find a box and get it out to you.
Thanks!
aww, what a great face! No worries at all. I'd planned this and, as always, first come, first served.
best,
don

Dr. Don, How much postage do you think is necessary. I've never done bulbs in the mail before. Thanks. fran
enough for 10oz. should be fine
hiya all,
received envelopes late last week from:
huggins
jenlee
darmadoll
RainGazer
All have been sent out in today's post.
You were kind enough to send me some this past summer and now I have them out of the ground...what do I do with them? Dry them out and replant them in the spring or pot them up and keep them inside? They are not hardy here in Baltimore. Thanks Nancy
hiya levilya,
Plant them in a pot full of perlite or a soil that isn't too fertile. You can dry them out and replant but if you've got a light spot indoors or in a greenhouse where you can let them grow through the winter they are supposed to be evergreen. But dry storage does work. packing them in sawdust seems to work for others in colder zones.
Hope they gave you some enjoyment this past summer.
best,
don
Thanks for the info...yes they were beautiful this past summer...Are you a Doctor?
yes,
What specialty?
pharmaceutical biology, geology, veterinary medicine. I guess you could say I'm a doctor(s)...lol.
WOW..impressive..now you will really be bombarded with questions!
do you have any left robin
drdon, I want to ask you something............
What do I do about my dog that likes to eat rocks that look like ginseng? Will that hurt her?
LOLOL.
Is she Chinese?...lol. They love their Ginseng. Behavioral changes occur mostly when something bad happens unfortunately. If the pebbles are in a particular part of the yard, you can frequently apply a spray made of cayenne pepper. If the rocks are quite small, and she's not, the chances of a blockage are slim if if she drinks a lot of water and if the pebbles are indeed small. If ginseng grows wild on your property, and she eats it, she's probably quite healthy since that root has incredible health benefits. The rocks however are probably not as good. Is your soil limestone?, she could be craving calcium and or magnesium. If this is so she might just need a little oyster shell calcium on her food each day until she stops with the amateur geology...lol.
This is kind of a hard thing to diagnose from 2,000 miles away but I've mentioned herein some things to look at.
I hope this helps,
don
Do you have any offers remaining? I'd love to try them, although I know I pushing it for my zone. I'm thinking I could play it safe & plant them out in spring, and if I planted them in one of my sheltered areas (south side of house, near a big boulder) they should be fine. I'll lift a few next fall for "insurance."
If they're still available, do you want a BE, or just loose postage?
Thanks!
Great pics of everyone's dogs, BTW! :-)
hiya critterologist,
great to see you!
Sent some to Baltimore early last year, they stayed in the ground and did marvelously.

You will have to lift them all they will NOT come back in Frederick!
not even if I put them on the sheltered south side of the house by my big rock? I was hoping that would be sort of a zone 7 micro climate... Well, I'll lift some & leave some, and we'll see.
edited because I can't believe I forgot to say, THANK YOU DrD! :-)

DrDon,
I sent my box out today finally. I was waiting for you to tell me if you wanted some seeds sending ( seemed a waste sending an empty box all that way...) but I think the Gremlins must have eaten that D mail :( . Anyway, I sent you a couple of things. Don't really know if they're ok for your zone though... Thanks so much for sharing these beautiful bulbs with us.
Maggi xxxx
Yes...Jill.....I will be interested to hear in the spring if they come back in your microclimate..I guess I do not have a place that I could do that and I thought it was colder in Frederick than Baltimore.
