I'm not a scientist just a 57 yo nature lover...I sure don't understand why the soil should be 10degrees lower than the air temp.??? Here in NC the ground is always warmer than the air ('cept maybe then temp is very high in summer!). I just cant buy soil "dropping to 53* in time when temp is 63* for week or more",.....hmmmm, no, that just doesn't make any sense to me.
Banana tree harvest
Hot air rises,cold air settles
I had palms seedlings in my greenhouse last year with a ground floor, being tight for space
I put some seedlings in there pots inside larger pots with plants in them and left some seedlings in there pots on the ground floor. My thermostat, never showed below 39*,of course they are placed chest high in the greenhouse, ans the leaves on the seedlings turned black,so I'm assuming they fried from the cold from the ground.
I hope this helps make sense!
Tropicman, what'd you think of my idea above? Or would your ground temp rule be my same issue to avoid?
I have one in the ground,in one of my greenhouses, been in the ground 2 yrs and is now in fruit, but it has stopped growing, since we've had nite time temps in the 50's,and hasn't started growing again, what I mean by growing the bananas stopped plumbing up.
If you have more than one,try one in the ground, one in a pot and see which does the better.
