lewisia from seed

Langley, BC, BC(Zone 8b)

Anyone have any words of wisdom on growing lewisia from seed. I woke up in the middle of the night absolutely convinced that it was lewisia that I needed to plant in the blank areas around my new patio. (I hate that, I do it all the tme) anyway, seed is the answer; because the plants are hugely expensive; leading me to suspect some difficulty.

I grow a lot of things from seed; have grown rhodos from seed; so a little difficulty holds no terrors, but I would welcome advice from anyone who has done this already -- no sense reinventing the wheel.

I've had good success with Lewisia. I love the Ontario Rock Garden
Society website for germination guidelines. Here's the link.

thanks Tam, that was really helpful. I am a member of the BC alpine garden soc --- they have a fabulous seed exchange drawing on members world wide. Each year I get some wild and woolly seeds from around the globe. Does the Ontario soc have something similar????

Nice to know lewisia has worked well for you. thanks again

Marian, "I hate that, I do it all the time" - referring to waking up in the middle of the night? If so, I know exactly what you mean, especially in the spring when I'm antsy to get planting. I 'dream' about combos I want to plant - wake up all ready to get planting but it's only 2:00 AM! Now, if my 50+ brain would just remember it in the morning :)

yes rcn; that is EXACTLY what I am talking about. Add to that that MY 50+ brain seems to also have acquired the reason and patience of a toddler. want it want it gotta have it NOW.

Fall is my antsy time for some reason, but these fits seem to strike to during the night when it is pouring buckets... and continues the next day.

sigh
