A mutant?

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6a)

I came across this white morning glory and am puzzled as to why it is there. The rest are Heavenly Blues. I traced the vine as far back as possible and it is connected to a blue plant (I think) lol.

Anyway, it's the only one that has shown up after all this time.

Any thoughts?

Joan

I had this just happen on a blue silk. I have only one vine in the container and no others around and on either side of the vine are normal blue silk.

Hello Joan ---
First of all, I LOVE CANADA!

I even know how to pronounce Mississauga ... lol
I've been to your beautiful city many times during my numerous trips to the GTA. Was in the 'final' process of immigrating to Canada to introduce and market a new sign and concept [for which I have an approved patent] to Canada. I had TREMENDOUS reception from my meetings with all of the GTA City officials -- AND, The Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade was 'pushing' me big-time to come to Canada, as well as a Senior Immigration Officer that I had the pleasure to meet. However, 911 halted that for a few years, on top of caring for my elderly mother, now deceased. In fact I was in Canada during the 911 attack. Still plan to be there within the next two to three years.

Anyways, what you have there is Heavenly Blue Ipomoea tricolor, and probably a 'stray' seed that is Pearly Gates Ipomoea tricolor. Both are beauties.

Thank you Emma, so glad you enjoyed your stays in Canada, and hope that you can one day come to live among us.

You can do our PR for us. lol

This is the only white flower and seems to be growing from a blue plant. The vines are tangled so difficult to really tell.

Will be watching for more whites, then I'll know for sure that there's a 'stray' in there.

Hi Joan,
If you do not have a vine of Pearly Gates.....
Your vine will be most interesting.

Any way you can trace your vine to the ground to see?
However, if the vines are that tangled, probably would be best to wait to see if you get more white blooms. You might want to mark that particular vine with some masking tape while you can still ID it - and also you would be markeing that particular pod as well, so you can collect your seeds separately for next year.

EmmaGrace, thank heavens somebody is thinking.

I will have a look tomorrow to see is there are any. If not, and no more show up, well then, I'm out of luck.

Joan,
You should be getting your first frost pretty soon - if you haven't already. What is the weather doing there. Any chance your vines can hang on a bit?

Emma, we could well hold off another month before frost. Last year we didn't get any till the later part of Nov.

Last couple of days have be absolutely wonderful. Nice moderate weather.

Emma, it is now Thursday, Oct. 6, and the lovely weather continues. Spread some mulch this morning.

Still no whites on the MG vines.

I'm thinking it truly is a mutant.

W ow Joan,
That is very strange that you only got 'one' White bloom.

We're not far behind you Janett. This is Thanksgiving week-end for us, here in Canada, and usually the height of the Fall colour.

As a rule, we go north of here, where the temperatures are cooler, on a 'Photo Safari'. But this year we're having company so will wait till next week-end.

I'm sure to be posting the results of that trip, most likely on the Canadaian Gardening forum.

Joan,
That is right that you are celebrating Thanksgiving now.
I forgot - I've been away from Canada TOO LONG!

Be sure and post your link of photos when you have them up.
Looking forward to seeing some great Canadian scenery.

Emma
