Autumn Has Arrived - Your Favorite Cold-Weather Soups!!!

Culpeper, VA(Zone 7a)

It's been a week since fall officially arrived, & even tho daytime temps have still been warm, nights are definitely getting cooler here. In fact, we've been warned that a light frost could be in our future in the next few days.

So - what are your favorite chilly-weather soups?? I have several, & in fact, during the fall/winter seasons I try to make one homemade (or semi-homemade) soup, accompanied by a good crusty loaf of bread & a green salad, for dinner once a week.

My favorite "quickie"? Buy a bag of green split peas & use the recipe on the bag, but substitute a smoked turkey thigh or drumstick for the usual ham in the recipe (husband doesn't eat any red meat products). Always turns out great & is a terrific ribsticker for a cooler evening meal.
