Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Didnt think that was it but it was worth a guess, LOL. Seems as tho I should know the name of this tree/plant but cant think past my wrong answer.

What more do you want to know Karen? Do you know someone in this area? I could always take a message.
I live in Edgewater Maryland, my DH is hispanic mother is from Guatemala his father is from Peru.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

OMG, That was our past winter here wasnt it?! Is that the South River? When the heck were you around here?

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

No this was the West River and what you saw made us decide we had to leave it.

I do miss Topside though and the Edgewater Inn.

Did Steamboat Landing ever reopen? We lived on West Chalk Point Road across the river from Hartges.

Do you know Mary and Felix Averill? They live on the water in Shadyside?

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

LOL, I dont blame you, its just starting to get cool at nights here and Im already thinking I need to move south.

The Edgewater Inn is great, I live basicaly across the street from it, I walk a block and a half to Mayo Rd and there it is.

Dont know about steamboat landing, Ill have to ask around but there are alot of piers around here that didnt get built back up from hurricane Isabel.

I dont know Mary or Felix, Shadyside is about a 20 minute drive from me and I dont get over there very often. I know a Larry Goss who lived in ShadySide but he is moving to Pa.

Sorry Karen didnt mean to totaly change your thread

Mol, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Chorisia speciosa (== Ceiba speciosa), the floss silk tree.

Regards

Carlos

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Not a worry in the world.

It is just nice to have someone to chat with that knew where we lived and went to the same restaurants, grocery, etc.

That is one thing I do miss. Deale especially. I miss Frank Sherman. His marina is across from Happy Harbour and we moved to West River because of him.

I will send you a nice rhizome of either Ginger or Heliconia if you would go down and tell him how much Lee and I miss him. :O(

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It could also be a Kapok tree, Ceiba pentandra also called Bombax ceiba. I have both the silk floss tree and the kapok tree.

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Calalily,

You have identified it. That is amazing.

Name your favorite tropical and within reason I will send you one.

Kudos again.

Karen

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I get a plant?? Wow, that's cool! I love aroids and gingers.........

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Cala thats what I was thinking too, LOL.

Casselberry, FL(Zone 9b)

What is that white fluffy looking stuff on the ground and the dreary gray clouds in the sky??? Reminds me of why I live in Florida!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

LOL, its the same stuff that makes me want to move to Florida

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I moved to zone 10 to get away from that stuff and it followed me here!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

ROFLMBO

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Calily,

I haev a baby giant ee left.

Would you like it?

Karen

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I would love one! Is there something from TX that you can't get down there that you would like?

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

My hubby is into EE's if you have any.

Other than that don't worry about it. Maybe next year.

I am going to send you a baby ee. Don't let it fool you though. Our EE leaves are topping over 40" now.

I won't send it till monday though. I do not want it sitting at the PO over the weekend.

Karen

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

If it does good in your heat and sun, it should like south Texas! Do you have xanthosoma jeoquinii? I can send you a pup of that. I will have more varieties in spring, now that I've figured out why I was killing my ears(not enough water, no food, poor things starved to death)

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Cala I have some babies of several different kinds I could send her one for you or send it to you if you need to start up your collection a little more. I have to go out and read the tags tho because I can never remember the names.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Dravencat, I'm slowly building it back up. This is a terrible area to find ears, so I buy a lot online. The xanthosomas do really well, the colocasias are doing much better now that I'm not starving them and if I'm getting better with the alocasias.
You don't want to know how many gingers I've killed in this learning experience! It's like growing on another planet down here!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

ooOOOOoo that reminds me I have a ginger Im gonna need to get care info on. I dont want to kill it especialy because I got it from Jody. My Illustris just bloomed for me recently so I guess Im doing something right, LOL. Im getting ready to pot up a bunch of stuff soon and have babies on most of the EEs so if there is anything your looking for just let me know and they are yours for postage. If I have someone to give the babies to it will get my but in gear to pot up and refresh some soil on some.

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Dravencat,

Can I have one?

Karen

Leesburg, VA(Zone 7a)

What all do you have in the way of EE's, Draven?

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

SB,

Butt out. I asked first.

LOL

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Let me go take a pic, its supposed to get huge but this one is still small but growing more and more. Im getting ready to put that one in a much bigger pot. BRB
