Stopping cross pollination?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I have seen a couple of post that people are tagging there flowers. Please tell me what to do and when. I have a couple of blooms that I would like to keep separate.
Thanks, Ronnie

Ronnie, the best thing to do is even before the flower opens, like the night before is to tape the bloom shut so it won't open. I put a small piece of tape around it and one across the top or front to keep the little black ants out as well. Dont' do it any sooner or the blooms may not develope properly and you won't get a good seed set.
And if you want to see the blooms then you will have to get you a very fine net and cover the whole thing. And put it off the ground to keep ants out. I don't think you will have much problems from ants as they really don't go that far and don't have furry bodys but just to make sure.........

Now if you want to cross, then let the bloom open, and take a small paint brush and apply pollen from another variety and then tape the bloom shut. Make sure you do this very early in the morning before anything has really had a chance to get in and pollinate.
Hope this helps
