Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

TamaraFaye requested a check in thread about 15 minutes ago and I have not seen one. Hope you all don't mind a girl in Ohio trying to keep up with you. :)

Sorry Badseed, I guess we cross posted. I'll take mine out and post a thread to here.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We're fine, too. The power went off for a little while, but it's back. We didn't hear any big thumps in the night, so I suspect the roof is also fine. I haven't looked outside yet, so I don't know how much of a mess we have to clean up, but we are very very grateful to have gotten off so easy. :-)

Doesn't matter to me Pati. The goal is the same. :) You can remove mine if it is easier.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

thanks for doing this guys!

my sis NE of Orange (non DG, but not for long heehee) has just called that they are OK at the shleter, tons of trees down everywhere, can't get 2 miles to chekc on her house. TeamOne is already mving in from JFK, a crew of 40, to set up at the NPS visitor center, so they have to cldear trees from there first...

also from Orange, araness (Saint) has also checked in from her Dallas motel. looks like they won't be driving to Austin as planned if Dallas is really out of gas, she said...

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

Tamara, glad to hear your sis and family are ok.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Here's my offical check-in, no problems here.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

We are present and accounted for. No problems at our house.

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Present & accounted for. Back safe in Victoria. Hotter than #$% down here, with a gentle regular TX breeze.

-Jennifer & Crew

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

Glad you guys are ok........will be glad to see MsCritter's post, worried about her. We're alright too--knew we would be, we're in N. TX--just winDY and overcast here.

Glad Rita calmed down instead of going to other direction........

Tyler, TX

We're OK here in East Tx. too. We had wind gusts today of 50 mph and a steady rain which we needed so bad. It's about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. Most of the stores were closed today, seems like a holiday.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

mscritter stayed with trois. last i hear they were taking a much needed nap!

glad everyone is checking in, lets hear from some more TX folks!

tf

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks, so much, tf--saw that MsC was staying at Trois' in another thread..........very good. Naps are good, especially when life's a bit stressful. =)

Meadows Place, TX(Zone 9a)

Everything fine here except only one problem:

NOT ENOUGH RAIN ! ;o)

6:00pm Friday night to 6:00am Saturday - 1/4 inch

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Present and unscathed here...got a brother in Port Arthur who, last I got word, through my dad in Colo Springs of all places, had evacuated to Jasper.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i hear Jasper is OK, glad you are...

(Zone 8b)

I will be off line for a few days because we are finally going on vacation. i thought Rita might close DFW, but we didn't get a drop of rain here just some reasonably stiff breezes.
Glad so many are OK, even if their homes are not and hope the rest of the "family" sign in soon.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

What a relief! So glad to see all these people are OK. Wish I had faces to go with the all the names.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi, shirleygirly! Thanks for reporting in, cousin. Glad you got some rain - nothing here but heat - prediction for today is 103. Our Dallas kin likely are okay, and I'm glad we are seeing these "safe" reports, and hope that is the case for everyone.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I've heard Jasper is not OK--downed trees can't move no gas.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, makes me worry about Moodene, didn't she say she was going there?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Moodene checked in with someone... Can't remember who now or where it was posted, but she's on my list to update. :-) She's fine, there was no damage, but she has no power.

Off to the check in list...
~ Marylyn

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

There is now a check in list for folks in Texas and Louisiana who were in the path of the storm. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/547142/ Please help me keep it updated! If you or someone you know are on the list (or SHOULD be on the list!!) please either check in over there or D-mail me with the information. Thank you!!!

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Just a note to let you all know MsC,DH & The ZooCrew SURVIVED the Rita storm in good shape thanks to some wonderful fellow DGers & great friends.

We are totally exhausted from packing, unpacking and repacking!! Pacing, worrying and planning and then re-planning an escape from the storm .
It has been a hectic & horrible week with the threat of the storm .

We finally made it back to our "Home Sweet Home" yesterday late in the afternoon. We had a lovely stay with a fellow DGer :Trois & his family. We had very lil damage mostly broken tree branches and a few destroyed plants. Nothing I can't live with for sure! I have a safe home and all my animals are a live and fine! Hubby and I are alive and well, too.

If the storm had hit the original expected landfall area, my area, the storm would have wiped us & our beloved ZooCrew off the face of the earth...a very scary week to endure.

We are so grateful to Trois & his family for their gracious invitation to unconditionally house us and The ZooCrew . We are also very grateful for all the prayers & concern from everyone here at DG's.

More later as I recoup,
Love & Hugs,
MsC/Lottie

A friend in an other group I'm in just asked after you.
Great to hear from you!

Kudos Trois and Family!

Ric

Midway, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok here in my part of Texas. We had fierce winds and 2 inches of rain. But al is ok here. Thankfully!!

Center, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm ok. We have no power and will not be back on for a week or two. Jasper has major damage. 90% of the building and homes have damage. San Augustine is damaged pretty bad as well. Woodwille looks like a bomb has hit there. We have kinfolk from Beaumont/Port Authur area here and they can't go home for at least a week or more. I'll keep an eye on this thread when I can get to a computer. Thanks for everyones prayers.

Brenda

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Ric for leting me know there were others asking about my safety. I will never catch up on the threads I'm sure.

Trois& family are our Hero's.:)

Glad to know I have friends here at DG's.

MsC

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Moodene-Nadine reporting here...I am okay..My Hubby and I rode out the storm..No damage to my house or my barn. Just alot of tree limbs and leaf debris and few trees that got their tops snapped off..I am running on generator power right now..My brothers came and hooked everything up for me..
Flowerjunkie-Daisy , I heard from her too...she had no damage either except debris..don't know about power right now..

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Good to here from you Nadine!

Deer Park, TX(Zone 9a)

We are okay. No damage - just some broken branches and lots of oak leaves all over the place. Our electricity was finally restored late yesterday. (God bless those linemen.) My husband's cousin in Newton, Texas lost about 100 trees, but the family is okay.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Saint (araness) is on her way back home, her husband's work called him in. She wants everyone to know that she liekly doesn't have phone, or cell (or any) service at home, so she will be out of touch for a while

Salem, MA

Silly question, but do the affected areas have US Postal Service working?

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

According to my postal person, they are sending to all zip codes now.

Long Beach, MS(Zone 8b)

Here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, we do get mail, but not all of it. There was a big gap and that mail has not caught up with us as of yet, either at home or at the office. And it is not a silly question, it concerns me very much. Fortunately, I pay most of my bills on-line but have not gotten a bank statement so don't really know what I have in the bank. There are still lines at a lot of the banks and it is difficult for me to get there since our office re-opened within two weeks and there is so much I have to take time off to do that it is hard to do all those things you need to do in person. Crazy sentence - but my mind is just shot.

Thanks all my DG friends for your support.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

good point ruby!

everything i send USPS gets delivery confirmation added on to it, even media mail (books). just a little extra insurance for a few cents...

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Ruby,
Can't you access your account on-line?

If not start a PayPal one.

Ric

Long Beach, MS(Zone 8b)

All contacts with the banks are messed up but have never set up on line banking. Just received a check my brother mailed to me on September 8th today. Guess he had been wondering why I had never thanked him. Will take a few hours off tomorrow and see if I can get a statement. You can't reach them by phone as they are local and have lots of damage in some of their offices and have so many people with problems lining up for help at the ones that are open and the phones are constantly busy.

A young man who is a good friend and lost everything and seemed to be coping fine just called tonight and was losing it. I find that those who have been being brave and trying to go on with their life all arrive at a point (at different times) where they suddenly break down and cannot cope. It is all so sad. I have seen the same thing with some of those in my office who have lost everything. It all just suddenly gets to them.

I thank God that my problems are minor - although life is tedious and sooo stressful with so many details to take care of. My DG friends are a great support. Thank you all.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I made contact with sunnytex and she is OK.
