MOLLY!!!
Just had to show you this!!!
A bud on 'Pink Frosty'!!!
I moved the plants to the front porch and it is much warmer there. Should have had them there all this time!
So thank you for these!
Hope it will open up soon before the weather really changes.

This is the whole plant now.
Should I put it in a larger pot for the winter or wait until next spring?
I looked at 'Charles Grinaldi'(sp?) and so far nothing for a bud yet. But it was much slower so...
How exciting! All this from a cutting you sent me.
Thanks so much!

Wonderful!!!!!!!!

My Frosty hasn't bloomed in a couple months, but it is really growing fast though. I'll be able to take a bunch more cuttings to start so I can take them with me.

Let's see now, how big is that pot it's in? I would think, if it is not root bound, don't put it in a bigger pot yet. I know you are going to have to over winter it and you may not want it to grow too fast yet.

My Charles Grimaldi is doing a little poorly. Hasn't grown much and doesn't get too many blooms. But I'm not giving up. I thinking of whether I should dig the whole tree or just take cuttings. If I do cutting, I will be leaving behind a butchered little tree. What do you think?

Carol & Bonnie, those seeds are in the mail today so they should be coming your way by mid week. Enjoy them!!!!

Happy Birthday Molly!

Thank you Melba ((((hugz))))

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Oh that is right, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOLLY!
I sent something in the mail for your birthday so should be coming soon, hehe!

If it were me, I would take the whole tree of 'Charles Grimaldi' since it is already growing.

Thanks for the seeds!

Carol

Thank you Carol, something for me? Oh goody, I love surprises.

Okay, I shall take the whole tree.

Molly,
Am I too late to get some of your four o'clock seeds in trade for something after you move? A hosta maybe?
Diane

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

diane,

not too late at all. send name and address please.

molly

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Molly. You've got mail.

(Zone 7a)

Molly, would you like to contact me in the spring when you're ready to make your new garden? We grow many kinds of perennials, woody plants, bulbs, annuals, vines, etc. and would be happy to share divisions, seed, cuttings, bulbs, etc. when the time is right for you.

Is it too late to ask for some of your white 4 o'clock seed, too?

When the red tape gets sticky, think of all our plants waiting for you next spring.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

That is very true, bluespiral.
Yes, Molly, just ask us in the spring time!
Carol

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Blue and Carol,

Thanks so much for the offers. I'll be posting here in this thread, I think for spring plants.

Blue, dmail me and give me your name and address and I'll get some seeds out as soon as I get some stamps and some more bubble envelopes.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Hey, Thanks, Molly.
Got the seeds today.
Do appreciate. Will think of you when I plant them this winter/spring.
Carol

(Zone 7a)

Molly, I made up a package with stamps, self-addressed label and bubble envelope so all you have to do is put seeds in when you get it. Will wait to pelt you with plants till spring.

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Molly, My seeds came today too. I won't forget you in the spring. Do I plant these seeds now? Could I do them in my little greenhouse for the winter and then set them out in the spring?
Thanks very much.

Diane

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Diane,

I have been living in zone 10b for 30 years. I plant seeds at will down here. Our soil never really gets cold.
I planted my seeds last winter and they germinated very quickly. I would think planting them in the greenhouse would work. Let's see if Carol has some advice here.

This winter I will be learning new zone things and asking all these questions.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Molly, Are you talking about me?
I don't know the weather in NC at all.
If you have a greenhouse, Diane, you can start them in there then. What is the low temp. in the winter for you tho?
If it doesn't get too cold, they should be fine. I don't plant seeds except sweet peas and vegs. in the ground because of the dang cats so.... Greenhouse works for me the best.
I am not going to start my 4'o clock seeds until like Jan. here in Oregon tho.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Carol

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Carol, would you have any extra seed of your red garnet penstemon?
I have never seen such a tall healthy plant of a penstemon like yours before.

Maxine

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Maxine,
I don't have any seeds but I can get a plant of it. It roots very nicely with all the stems going all over including layering itself and roots.
Yes, this penstemon is wild but I love it.
If you want a real plant of it, I can do that. Let me know what you want. Maybe D-mail me since this is Molly's thread.
Carol

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Yep Carol,

I was talking about you. :^)))) Anybody north of zone 9 knows more than me about this stuff and somehow I knew you would know what to do.

Thanks for helping.
Molly

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Aw, Geez, Molly, thanks!
But what I ever say isn't in concrete. Is just what I do and have survived with. So people need to take any advice and do what they want with it.
I play and push to limits at times to just see what will happen. I love experiments.

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

The NC weather is so strange. Last winter we had almost no winter--only a few cold days and no snow. The winter before we had three snowstorms of 10" each and one ice storm. I'm zone 7b/8a. Hard to figure out what to do in advance. I have such a hard time with seeds that I probably will start them in my little greenhouse inside. Between the birds, the squirrels and my own inability to do seeds........

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Wow, you have had some weird weather.
Yeah, sounds like the little greenhouse is the best way. At least you would have more control then.
Carol

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Diane,

I guarantee you will NOT have any problems with the 4:00's.

They have nearly a 100% germination rate, have a gazillion blooms and smell wonderful!!!

Molly

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Promise? I swear I kill more seeds than anybody!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

No, I have the record for seed killing! And you will do great with these seeds. They will give you new hope and confidence.

:^))))

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

But I'm old, so I've had more time to kill seeds!

When I was in Jr. High, my father was planting some sweet peas (now HE was a good gardener) and he gave me half of them. We planted them along a fence around our back yard. Every single one of his came up and only one of mine. He never let me forget it. It was one of his favorite funny family stories. I told everybody he dug mine up!!
