I got back today from the aroid show. Man what a trip took me 16 hours of driving straight to Miami Florida. I spent a ton of money on new plants. I was suprized to see so much that I needed LOL. Here are a few pics of what it was like. I stayed at Enids for three days we went to a lot of places and found a lot. I had a blast. Will put some pics up of some new things I got.
Back from the aroid show
What fun that woud be to go to one of these shows. Look at all those plants. I googled for one in California but none came up. Do you know how frequent they are? Ever heard of one in Ca?
Kell, you would end up divorced! LOL I'd have to buy enough plants to live in cuz that would surely be my new home! I would have SO much fun shopping somewhere like that!
Who is the specimen on the really far left in the first picture? Nice calfs!
The guy on the far left is Reggie whitehead. He is the president of the fern and tropical society. Great guy probably the top person in the nation to know about ferns he has a huge collection of odd plants.
man, what a treat to have been there! All the good tropical stuff is in FL.
Oh wow! I love plant shows. That one looks like it was a great one!
Wow. I would love to go to one.like this one. Kell get your charge card ready. We'd have to have a trailer to pull all we would buy. LOL
It was amazing. But it was also sad not many people made it to the show. So not alot of money was made. One the other hand their were deals that were out of this world. Plants that usually go for 100s of dollars were going for 15.00. I have actually never seen anything like this years show. Some of the best plants ever with the cheepest prices ever. If you missed it you really did miss it.
Cool...thanks for sharing the photos!
So, did you tell Enid we said 'HI!? lol!
Ain't that the truth, CalifSue....all the good stuff *is* in Fla....and look how HUGE it all grows!!
lol @ you badseed....noticing the 'calves' before the foliage!
My DH has calves like that ;)....he's a softball fanatic.
What is that huge tree like thing in the last photo--it towers above the rest?? MAN!! If I went to a show like that and actually HAD money I would be in trouble myself!! WOW!! Thanks for sharing!! Bonnie
I was wondering, too..... about the 'colorful' plant near the left @ bottom of the last photo (just the foliage is 'peeking' up)....is that a Thai Aglaonema?
Wow..... what a beautiful show, they were selling plants also?????? I love them and want to grabe all. Thank you so much for sharing with us. I like such exibitions.
Kaleem
OMG just a minute everyone I have to go change my t-shirt, it is so wet from my drooling. Next year Brian if you need a driver to the plant show let me know, and I would be more then glad to chauffeur you there and back. If I could have gone there, I would have thought I had died and gone to heaven.
Thanks for sharing your pictures they are great.
Linda
Welcome back!
I think I saw you in a few shots on Aroid-l....
Awesome batch of plants there!
Any one group jump out at you for future growing?
Ric
I believe that is a thialand aglaonema in the pic as for the plant towering over all the others that is probably Amorphophallus titanum.
I did see some great stuff and I got a lot of very cool philodendrons that I have already began to propagate. Their was also a lot of shingler plants which I am very fond of something about them they are extremely unusual growing flat to the surface. Here is a pic of one at the show I bought this one and am propagating some now.
Wow, that looks like a piece of botanical artwork!
It does look like artwork. To me it looks like a piece of bark with the leaves painted on it. It something to look at.
Linda
I have a Monstera dubia.
Is this one similar in growing culture?
Ric
They are similar and not many people can tell them apart infact most people cannot tell them apart at all. The reson is Monstera Dubia looks exactly like Rhaphidophora cryptantha shown above when juvinal but as the monstera grows up its leaves change dramatically usually at about 6 feet tall. Also they are found on the oposite ends of the world. The Rhaphidophora cryptantha will never change leaf forms. Here is a pic of the monstera changing from juvinal to mature leaves.
Welcome home Brian. WOW What lovely pictures. I'm SO jealous. If it weren't for that greenhouse, we'd have went in a heart beat. Can't wait to see them all and OMG that shingle plant is amazing! Lots of blooming going on at our house. Can't wait to visit and see what you have.
TTYL,
Carla
P.S. Give Spock and Gerty a good scratchin for me.
WOW!! That is AWESOME! I can see why you love these widely varied plants soooo much!! So cool!! That plant you bought and are now propagating looks like that last photo when it starts to mature?? WOW!! I actually like it juvenile better maybe?! hehehe Vey pretty!! Bonnie
I grow as many shingle plants as I can find. The aroids have a lot of them in their group but some are in different species such as piper dischidia hoya and marcgravia. This next one I believe is a monstera now it grows flat the the tree then reaches the top hangs down and then has flowers that hand upside down. Very interesting I like it better juvinal also.
I have a few Rhaphidophoras,myself, though mine aren't climbing.
What's the ID of the one pictured above?
It's beautiful with those white veins!
Reminds me of a large version of Peperomia prostrata.
Can these shingle plants grow in South Carolina?? They would have to be in the house or someplace where temps are constantly in the 80's or something?? Seems to me you are a sort of expert on Aroids, eh?!! It is NICE to meet a man who LOVES plants like I do!! Single too, eh?! hehehe Bonnie
Brian, it has been a real treat to see all your pictures over the last few weeks. Thank you for taking the time to share them all with us. Your plants, and your talents, are amazing.
Erick
(seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettle down, Bonnie Mae ... lolol)
