I'm trying to find a name for this Xanthosoma. It is NOT a syngonium. It has arrowhead shaped leaves that are bronzy-pink and some are green. The stems are striped and spotted. Could it be Excalibur? Anyone growing this one?
I picked it up at Lowes as "Assorted elephant ears", along with black magic, illustris, Amazonica, fallax and wentii. Can you believe my Lowes had all these? From another lowes I got Metallica and Hilo Beauty, all large plants, all on clearance.
Any suggestions for names would be helpful. The closest I've found is Excalibur.

Can you ID this Xanthosoma with pink/bronze leaves?
ya got me fooled.... I havent seen one with the spotted stems before......they look more like alocasias. But its a definate Xanthosoma.
"Excaliber" is a Colocasia esculenta or at least the one I know.
The stem says Xanth or Alocasia.
I don't know of any snakeskin Colocasia but have several Xanth and Alocasia snakes.
How old are these?
How big?
Can you get a shot of the back of the leaf?
Especially where it attaches to the stem and the leaf edge.
It looks from the front like it has a leaf margin.
That says Xanth.

Looks a lot like my Syngogium with the exception of the wider rear leaf parts.
Nope, definitely not a syngonium. It's definitely an ee. Much bigger than a syng. I have several of those. This was labeled "assorted ee" when I bought it. It is not vining. Each stem has exactly one leaf.
I read somewhere that Excalibur is called a xanthosoma AND a colocasia. Even the experts are confused. LOL
Here is the info from Agristarts. http://www.agristarts.com/colo_excalibar.htm The leaves sure look like the typical Xan leaf to me.
Yes, it looks a lot like excalibur, but notice the stems on the one at Agristart are green. My stems are striped and spotted. So I'm unsure. I've sent it to an elephant ear seller I buy from to see if she can tell me what it might be. I bought it at lowe's so I can't imagine it being rare. But then I bought my fallax there too--big potfulls of it.

LOL Well, you are in the zone to have a much better choice than we do up here. :) I did buy gallon pots of Hedychium, Curcuma, Anthurium, Syngogium, Heliconia, A.p. Nigra and Metallica, Xan jeo lineatum and some others at a grocery store for $4! That was a shocker for here! This year it was a pleasant surprise to even find bananas, Black Magic and Illustris in the nurseries. The above plants were all in bright blue pots that said Tropical Flavor on them, which allowed me to trace them back to the nursery. I didn't get much info but read a neat story about how the nursery came about and also why they put their plants in bright blue pots. :)
For s&g, I took a pic of the Syng stems. Yours seem to have more color.
Yes, the green leaves are on the same plant as the bronze leaves.
You got a good deal on your ee's. I'm not going to tell you how much I paid for 3 gallon pots full of my ee's. You'd be moving here if I did. LOL I will tell you that a lowes in TN sold me a 3 gal pot of Hilo Beauty for 69 cents!!! But I paid slightly more than that for the ee's I bought here in town. I bought all 28 pots they had. Greeeeeeedy!!!

LOL. 28 pots. What a deal. I sure wish our Lowes had more stuff. They started out with a bang when they first opened and slowy have gone downhill. Rarely a cleance sale there but I did get big bags of soil for $1 a bag last year. I love dthat.
I am so jealous of all you bought. .
Not sure if you got the right name on this one. I got lazy and did not read all the post.
This is a Species Caladium picturatum form. I first saw this 3 years ago at Fairchild gardens. I was their when they gave agristarts a piece to clone. They gave it the name Excaliber and labeled it as a Colocasia which it is not. As the story goes they are not sure were the plant originally came from. It was collected in south america. Aparently this species was found at a very very abandoned indian tribes camp. From what they believe these indian tribes would plant Caladiums around the camp for protection against evil spirits.
Also here is something interesting this is a mutation off the same plant. You will see some odd mutations with plants like this sense they are being mass produced in TC labs. I thought this one was interesting and kept it. Maybe worth a trade name later?
Wow, that's pretty!
Ok, then, I'll call it excalibur. Thank you. A couple people have suggested Excalibur. So until someone corrects me, that shall be its name.
Thank you!
