blooming for us at work today :)
Japanese MG "Seiryu"
Very pretty color of blue! How large are the blooms?
Alice
Alice the blue blooms were 5-1/2 inches :)
All very pretty MGs, but what a variation in supposedly the same variety. DonnaS
sooooo to sum it up, my guess is that my first 2 photos are Seiun!!! hmmmmmm there are so many different seed companies and they all seem to name theirs differently, so this could take alot of work to figure out if what we are growing is from one seed company or another seed company with different names. But I do think my FIRST photos are NOT Seiryu!!! I am glad you are here Cat, we might make some headway with getting some things straightened out!! Where is that Emma at now!!!!
Seriously though, I do HATE that, I open a brand new packet, label it and watch it grow, photograph the blooms only to see that they are NOT what the packet shows!!!!! So tell me this Are we not safe assuming the packet should be correct? LOL I think until we research a little more, alot of seeds we are growing could be called one thing and then find out they truly ARE something else!!! geesh, this is supposed to be fun not a messy hassle over what they are called LOL BUT I didn't want people to see the top photos and assume that they are growing the same one only to have it turn out wrong, this is why I added those other photos so others could see the major differences.
Both Seiryu are from the same package, and other photos I've seen of them show both forms. I got the Ukigumo and Suigetsu also, but what I found out about the photo shown on the Ukigumo is that it is used on several different packets, only the color has been changed in a photo editor to approximate the true color. Talk about really frustrating!
yes truly frustrating! to say the least. I think there will be much more confusion the more of us folks growing them coming up with different "patterns, etc". That's a shame seed companies can't be more honest and not touch up the photos! Just show us the true photo of what the seed is supposed to be and be done with it.
Laurrie, I have that same packet that had a translated name of Seiun, and my flower looks like that packet picture.

Joseph
Yes Joseph, I found the photo and compared to my one that was supposed to be Seiryu and knew then it wasn't truly Seiryu but Seiun!!!
Emma, I think you sent me some of those seeds last year. I haven't grown them yet, so I forgot all about that one you had. I love the haloed throat. It just lights up the whole flower!
