Hello,
The "Orange Noah' can be distinguished from the usual species of Ipomoea coccinea by the direction that the maturing seedpods are oriented ....Ipomoea cocinnea has seedpods that reflex from 90 to 180 degrees...which is characteristic of this species, while the 'Orange Noah' has seedpods that always seem to reflex fully 180 degrees, that is bend downward so that the top of the seedpod faces the ground and this feature has been the cause of continued speculation as to the true identification of this unusual little 'critter'...
Ipomoea hederifolia seedpods usually remain fully erect, although partial reflexure of seedpods of no more than 90 degrees has been observed...
Is it a weed...depends on each individuals definition of a weed...Some people think all MG's are weeds...despite all the pollinators and animals that they feed...I like the definition I heard that "A 'Weed' is anything(!) that you(!) don't want growing in your(!) garden"...

I also heard that a weed is a plant whose virtues have yet to be discovered.......
true enough, I suppose, but they do tend to grow where you don't want them and much better than the things you do! :-)

Larkie said what I was thinking.
I've been trying to stamp out MG's the previous owner's kids planted everywhere.
I recently discovered that they will bloom (and presumably seed) after the vine is disconnected from the base and the remaining vine has shrivelled. The cockroaches of the plant kingdom, they are.

The hummers like this orange one ,
so guess its not all bad

Yep, Ipomoea coccinea also known in the morning glory world as Orange Noah. It is an Annual in our part of the country (WV) but it will come back easily from seed. The Hummers love it here. Also I agree with the others who said "If you don't want it in your garden then it's a weed, just yank it up!"

We have it too. It was first given to me a few years ago as a Cardinal Climber. Now I have the true CC and the original one.
