I didn't even know about that storm until today. I hope she is alright! I hope everyone down there did okay.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Larry news said it was only 85 mph windsthere. We better hold on to our hats again for a possible cat 4 hurricane. I am beginning to despise watching the news. May start packing up the house againnnnnnnnn on sunday after they know a little more as to where it might go. Just very important stuff like clothes, CPU, family heirlooms, and important papers. Such a pain right now.

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Ely,
Someone posted in the Weather forum that they talked with her.. She's fine... still no power though

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Where have I been?? I was totally unaware until this thread that a Hurricane HAD struck recently in Florida!! Hope everyone is ok!! Bonnie

it Might be the MS people That might be MIA... now.....

Molly posted this on one of my threads. Poor girl. :( I hope she does not mind that I post it here.

Hi all,

Since I am no longer in the path of Katrina, I thought I would post over here. We are fine here at my house, but still sweating out of our eyeballs.

Friday, FP&L turned the power on in our grid and blew a transformer and smoked out the power lines. I called and reported a line down in my backyard right after that happened (scarey it was) and they have now put us at the end of the repair list. Easy stuff first, tough stuff last.

My next door neighbor on the north side is in a different grid than us, she has power and I have a cord from her laundry room to my kitchen. Just got that last night. We are able to run the fridge, a fan and the tv.

I unplugged the fridge so I could get on the computer for a little while at least.

It's really depressing to see people all around you with their windows closed, a/c and lights running. Yesterday after talking to the power company I just sat down and cried.

Too many hours(days) of little sleep, too much heat and humidity. I'd discovered I have a problem with my lower back and legs/feet directly related to (age) that I can really feel when there is no climate control.

Well, we are off to help Annalisa clean her yard. The least we can do for some electricity.

Good luck to all who have been introduced to Katrina and I hope you all stay well.

Molly

Hi Bonnie,

Just checking in quickly, I am sharing an extension cord with my refridgerator, so can't use the power for too long.

Hurricane came through, took my electricity and left. Don't know when we'll be back up and running. I was have computer withdrawals so came here just for a few minutes.

I will watch for the package on Monday. Thanks so much.

Will talk to ya later, when I can.

Molly

So I guess so far she is ok--alive at least and still with a roof over her head. Hope they don't get whacked again on it's way back!!

Larry, and Donna, Bonnie, Chele, and MzMunch

Thanks for thinking about me. I am totally back in order. I have no problems. Have spent a little time checking out the hurricane thread in the weather forum and we are all worried about everyone up Ms. La. and Al. way.

When my power was down, I had no idea what was really happening out there. I was sitting around having my own little pity party and that darned storm was hiking up the gears. Well I am doing great now and am sending positive thoughts north and west to our friends up there. Our prayers are with them.

Again, thank you all for your concern. It does warm a heart to know we have such good friends here.

Molly

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I really hope we hear the same news about Ely and Donna later!! It is sounding really bad down there.

Foley, AL

Roz is in Gulfport, but can't get a call thru. Bill's(DH) company sent him to Alabama, I talked to him this morning, he said the winds were terrible all night long.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Has there been any word from Roz? Last I talked to Peggy last night, she still couldn't get a call through.

I have been praying for all you guys. I lived in Mobile in Sep 1979 during Frederic (130 mph) and it was a terryfing time. I had just graduated from UofA and quite honestly can't tell you I remember paying attention to the warnings. My then husband and I stayed in our apartment and watched every window burst and break. We had no food, no water, no flashlight, NOTHING. I think we were the only idiots that actually stayed in that apt. bldg.

Some people say your teen years are the "numnut" years; mine were the early twenties (not seeking shelter and marrying that guy, LOL)

My love and prayers to all of you.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Please be careful Ely and let us know how things are when you are able to. I'll be sitting here growing gills. LOL It has been pouring all morning. On a good note, I had potted up most of my ears, bananas and brugs so they are getting a good long soak in unchlorinated water and not baking in the sun on this second overcast and rainy day. I will take this compared to what you all have had to deal with so many times. (((Ely))) If you happen to get any word from our other friends, please let us know.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

zone envy had disappeared, hasn't it?

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Larry...

I'm sorry I just saw this. I live right off the Crestview exit. If you'd like I'll d-mail you the directions. I'm glad you are safe!

Talked with DonnaB last night.. she has lost her place.. flooding.. it came up over her roof. She is staying with friends in VanCleef. Still have not been able to reach BarbaraW or Gaylams.. I keep trying their cell phones and house phone.. no luck

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I am so sorry to hear about Donna's home. I am sure she is devastated and upset, but other than that is she alright? Has anyone heard from Roz yet?

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

copied from above.. the way I read it.. Roz is fine... maybe I'm wrong...

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Trish we can't get in touch with Roz, I think Susies post was talking about her Bill not, Roz's Billy. Larry you need to check back in you had some bad weather since you posted and you where headed home to see what was there. Take care and let us know how you are and what you need.

Foley, AL

roz is in gulfport?
honeybee gulfport "I think"
Msjen is in gulfport Right next to ROZ
janetOS "called got her voice mail" left msg
Gaylams?
what about lillcajunlady? and othe La people? they were flooded...

I hate that donna lost her place but I know that your house is not only a house but memories. I will have to call her...

bolixi and gulfport were they had the hardest hit from the storm but new orleans is flooded... which Ocean springs is about 20 minutes away from gulfport driving my speed and maybe 10 going the speed limit... Sildale LA, most of the city is flooded and the next exit on the map from gulfport. gulfport I think has three exits? so it is pretty big. the storm did hit where Bward lived with a catagory 2 or three force winds.I think it hit all of ms except for the north west part.

The radio said if you can text msg them they can get that before they would even get the first phone call but you got to keep in mind most "younger" people don't know how to recieve or respond to text msg. they also said day by day you will get more towers up....

Its a sad sight here and must be there. water came up 3ft up the poles of our house. if you have ever been lucky enough to smell the mud in a brackish water bay; that is what it smells like outside. ...... everything is wind burned and muddy looking but I don't think it is gone. I took everything in pots to higher ground. which was about 60%of my plants. The area got the east quadrin "spelled worng" of the storm............but whoever heres from them should update us all! This kinda makes you want to put everything on ebay..LOL... zone envy I wouldn't want to move storms do suck but no matter where you go your going to have some type of problem. rain, snow, blizzard, mud slide, Earth quakes etc.

Trish I new you lived right off the gulfport exit. I would have been coming down 90 they had the interstate blocked off in milton. so you would have to take 90. but I didn't know the directions and I didn't think at the time to go to the old e-mails and find your # I could have got more weeds....LOL monday sucked the only place that was opend was foodworld. and I was starrrrrving I ate that I was like the cookie monster wanting more... well it was my big butt wanting more....LOL I guess old greenleaf had around 1 million dollars worth of damange to his place this time. =) but trish I do plan on going to the greek fest over there at least louis told me crestview had one....after p'colas

I left milton at 8.30am and it took me till 12.30 to get to foley. so what is about 1.5 hr drive was longer. they had i-10 bridge going to p'cola shut down it wasn't the best of shape driving over it before but I thought it was going to be worse but I guess a lot of people knew they were not going home anytime soon. There are also parts of MS and La that you can't cross over on I-10. they had 90 closed the day after the storm in the pace area. its not that great down here now...

ely

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Mystic.. yes, you are right. I guess I am just hoping to find good news in posts. I've been frantic not being able to reach BarbaraW or Gaylams (Kay). If I knew I wasn't adding to the problem (they are asking for non emergency folks to stay off the roads) I would load up my truck with ice, water and food and head west to personally check in on these folks.

Ely, You've got electricity or running off of generator. I'm sorry to hear about your plants. I don't think that Crestview has a Greek Festival.. I think Ft Walton Beach does. You are welcome to come over anytime and I have a spare room if you want to spend the night.

Foley, AL

I heard on the news today that 90% of gulfport is/was underwater...

maybe it was FWB.....LOL

I will meet you at the loxley exit and ride with you.... trish.. =)

I'm still watching this thread hoping that DonnaB checks in. This is nerve racking. I know she and her family are safe but are they comfortable? That's what I would like to know. If anyone hears from her please let me know.

Ely, have you heard anything?

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Hugo... that was Donna that was calling when I was talking to you. Her husband went to Niceville and picked up a generator. She was at the trailer trying to salvage what she could of pots and pans and things and upset because the cabinets were falling off the wall. Poor thing.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Larry I am sorry about your plants you know we can try to replace those for you. Just glad you weren't there. I wish we would hear something from Roz and Barb and the others in that other. I did find this post in brugs I am like you I keep calling and getting busy signals. No telling how long before they have service or if they are even able to stay there now.
Latest update regarding Roz.....

Babs(her daughter in Fl) wrote that they have not been able to contact them and are very worried. The last communication was right before the eye hit and Billy (her Dad) said he had never seen anything like it before. The roof from the shop in back of the house was gone by then, also the pool house and Roz's greenhouse. If any of us get any new info, she would like for me to pass it on to her.

Those are all close to the house so I am sure it had to get part of the house as well.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Trish, I was talking about my Bill, it didn't even dawn on me that Roz's hubby was Billy too. I still can't get a call thru to my friend Ruby in Hattiesburg(she knows BarbW) or to Roz.
Frannie posted in the brug forum(I think it was there) about Roz, they haven't been able to get in touch with her since before the eye hit.
Eley, if you need plants, I'll try to start you some of mine.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Ely, you know I will give you anything I have. Just let me know when things clear up.

I was really hoping some of the other people would have turn up by now. This can't be good.

If anybody knows of anything Donna or anybody else could use right now, please say so. I'm too far away to do much else and not able to leave here.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Larry,

You know I will help you to rebuild your garden with ears or anything you need.

Each member will Dmail others in an organized fashion.
Then report in on contacts.

I heard where h-burg where bward lives where only a few have power on and it will take up to seven days to get the rest on. just depends if you live North south east west...etc.

I-10, 90 and 98 are closed in mississippi but you can get around to where you need to go if you know the back roads...

ely

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Just talked with Barbara...she is fine!!! She had minor damage to her house, her greenhouse is still standing, her hoop house is destroyed. She said her European brugs are blooming safely in the garage. She doesn't have electricity and will be heading up to stay with family in a few days until the power gets restored. She said to say hello to everyone and that she is safe.
