Monika's Book Regarding Soil (PART 2)

I just posted this with all sincerity to DG Admin.

I spend way too much time popping in and out of here at work. Your site has allowed me to meet a diverse crowd and exchange many things and I appreciate it. As with any large gathering (High school, football games, the office, etc.) , there are cliques and gossip and jockeying for top rung, even when it's not necessary. Having spent 20 years in the Navy and raising 5 kids (four of them daughters) I've developed a dislike for large gatherings in small confines.

My outbrief would be to question whether it's your policy to allow a member which also has a business interest in the gardening world to be allowed constant and free advertising?

Thank you again and extend my gift subscription compliments to Scooterbug.
Sincerely Blaine

Hope you'll reconsider Blaine. Would miss your sense of humor and seeing your delightful yard. How will we know what Harlot and your crew has been up to if you're not here? LOL

I have lots of friends that I agree with most of the time. Have a few that I only agree with 50% of the time ... especially if we're talking politics or religion. I still love those people during the 50% of the time I don't agree with them. In some ways they make life more interesting than those with duplicate opinions. Obviously I can't say that I really know you from this site, but I've enjoyed your posts that always ring with true humor and I've seen your generousity and kindness to fellow Dave's members. The evidence suggests that I'd like you if I ever got to meet you. I'll be sad if we don't get to know you even better here at Dave's.

You know Blaine, I had the same reference: High School. Nothing more to be said about that. I hope you reconsider as well. It's ironic how a simple misconception can result in an escalation of unfortunate events. Such is the way of humanity I suppose.

Guess I owe you guys an option but I would imagine Dave is taking the weekend off like most people do so I have been thinking and wondering what you all think about just changing the name of the thread?

I don't think anybody is fooling themselves into thinking there was any disrespect for Monika, I think there was some jealousy about the publicity she was getting for free. I didn't realize it was being taken that way but the actions of a couple of people show how little minds work.

So here's the deal, we need a new name for the thread and one that hopefully can relate to the old thread???? Do you know what I mean? So anyone that has been reading the old one can easily find the new one? Or just add a link to the old one.

Also, here is another thought, should it be moved to a different forum? Since we talked about different things we were being "disrespectful " to MONIKA or the brug forum? That is such a joke.

Or we can just let it go. LMK Let me know. LOL, Jeanette

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Blaine, you can't leave over something so silly as this. I understand why your temper would flare, but now it is the next day. Time to just wipe it all away and come back joking, making so many of us laugh. Besides, we all want to know if you won BEST YARD twice in a row. I say you did!!

Rj, I sure like your links. What dreams are made from. LOL. Maybe I should just keep my home here and buy a vacation place in zone 10 so I can have the best of both wolrds. Chamma's picture of Royal Poinciana, Flame Tree, Flamboyant (Delonix regia var. flavida) is so beautiful. I LOVE IT!!! And Pink Shower, Pink Cassia, Pink Lady (Cassia javanica) wants to live with me also. LOL Did you notice my very own pics on the Red Flowering Gum, Scarlet Flowering Gum (Corymbia ficifolia) link?? I love that tree.

Sandy, your pic of Red Bauhinia is sure pretty. I love flowering trees. They add so much color to your landscape.

Anyone know if we can just put a scoopful of the azomite on top of existing pots? No way am I going to repot now.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

How about; "NOT about Monika's Book Regarding Soil (PART 2)"
or "NOT about THAT Book Regarding Soil (PART 2)"
I like both.
Thanks Kell, I wish that Red Bauhinia was in my yard.

WOW I just got a red message when I hit send. Scared me. LOL. But it said a post was made as I was dawdling over Rj's links to his flowering trees. I had to of course look at each and every picture posted on each tree. I wasn't ignoring you, Jeanette. I do not really care how it is handled. This is all so silly. I just feel badly that Blaine is feeling so upset over it all.

LOL Sidney!

I personally don't care. I have seen many threads wander including several that I started. Maybe we should try harder to keep the topic on Brugmansia vs other plants but I don't even feel like the occasional off topic post is a problem as long as the entire thread doesn't run completely off topic.
I think if we were breaking any board rules we would already know about it. Mentioning other boards member's products shouldn't be against board policies as long as it isn't a blatent advertisement. We discuss garden products all the time here and to have to stop and consider if it's connected to a board member would be a royal pain in the wazoo and possibly even impossible considering the size of the membership.
I very much dislike seeing people being hissy with each other. You can't control your feelings but you can control your actions and what you say. Esp in this medium. Life is too fragile and short to let little things become big divisions. I value everyone's contributions even when I don't agree.
Having blathered on this far I will say that if the majority prefer a name change or forum change just post the link and I will trail on after

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I honestly didn't realize there were so many following the thread. I have no problem with re-naming the thread for chat - and continuing part 2 as well for our studies with the soil composition.

Blaine- I would pay for a new membership for you to stay.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Kell,
re the azomite - puting some on the top of the soil would be kind of missing the point. The idea behind the soil additive is to allow the roots to absorb the nutrient exchange the lava facilitates.

Where were the picts of the flowering GUM?
Rj

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

I thought I read on the azomite website that you could put it on top and work it in lightly. off to double check :)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Blaine, take pity on Rj, he just doesn't want to be left alone with so many women. LOL. The male contingency on here is not that big. We need you.

It was on the link you provided above. I have a few pics of this tree on it.
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/49993/

This is an impressive tree!! So colorful.

Well, it won't be the first time or last that I have missed the point. LOL. But my thought was the water passing thru would take down the minerals etc in the azomite to the roots. Much like when I put cow manure on the top of my beds.

Well, They just don't get much better than Blaine and I have met him and yes he was almost 300 miles of generous to me as he drove into the heart of Chicago and toured me all over that area of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Blaine is about the nicest fellow I've met in several years. He's smart, curious and lots of fun on line and off.
When it comes to gardening, it just doesn't get much better. He's all out and has the most beautiful yard to show for it.

I come with love to DG, as do most gardeners. I leave all competition and politics in the bag when I'm here. It's about helping each other and finding new things for growing and nurturing. Not about putting down people or poo pooing them on line.

Now we have a real ray of light leaving? God I hope he doesn't.
Please reconsider Blaine!

Thanks, you all have simmered me down, I'm going to put the post I was going to send in the bottom drawer, and hope it doesn't burn my barn down. I join the chant:

(((((Please reconsider Blaine!))))) If you aren't standing with us, the same thing could happen over and over again, to individuals that might not be strong enough (or know what is going on) to stand up to the spite and bitterness that seems so have overcome a very small faction of this forum.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Yesterday, I took a good look at my brugs and decided some had mites or a potassium/sulfur deficiency. So, I watered good and then sprayed the brugs in question (last year I would have sprayed all of them) with neem in a water hose thingy, then used MicroMix which is hight in potassium/sulfur and a small amount of 15-5-15 CalMag on some and Space City on the others. This am, I went to see if they were dead or alive, and wonder of wonders, the leaves are returning to green and the brittle look has diminished, as well as the spots, they are gone, so I'm betting it was a deficiency, ya think??

Please send your best vibes to our pals in LA/MS/AL/FL - I have TONS of family in NO and the entire area and it really looks tough. Have any of you heard from any brug pals in that area???

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Ya'll be cool and thanks!
The cold-turkey exodus had been under consideration for awhile anyway. I'm becoming one of the people at work that rubs me raw with being online all the time. You know what they say about glass houses. :)

I figured this was just a good place to step off. The brug forum isn't where I started but it's where I'll end. Holy compost!!! I did a career under strict rules and designated inspectors and executioners suggesting and enforcing. If I wanted more of that I wouldn't have retired from the military.

Here's a closing thought (other than prayers for you and yours). You may have noticed that I usually included a date in pics I posted. That was intentional so that any and all would know it was real and live. You also know I like a road trip. You might be surprised at some members homes I've done drivebys on.

Be real and don't forget - Jeanette is going to provide me the name of who gets the 2 set of "The Books". I think I've only seen two raise wave their hand.

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Blaine, I dont think you will be gone for too long...you are an inspiration on this forum and I wont give up hope that you change your mind...Judy

Just in case you're not the winner.... I'll get you a set of those coveted books anyway! In fact... with addy in hand in time.. tomorrow may be ROAD TRIP!!!!

Peak on the shoreline in CT is normally 3rd week of October..BUT - this year I'm told not to expect much. due to the severe drought (no rain in my yard since July1), I'm told the leaves will probably just dry up and fall off with little to no color...

Blaine, you are tooo cool. Please remember you can always come back even if just for a visit.

I hope your garden grows great as always......................... take great care with yourself and let your kind heart not be troubled.

Dear Blaine,
I'm with Judy, you ARE an inspiration to this Forum. I won't give up on the fact that you will be back and I'll just be waiting on an email or DMail from you. You are the type of person and personality that we all love around here. You step up to the plate when something needs to be said...in a tactful way...and have saved me alot from opening up my mouth lol, you're one of my mentor's. You soared with brugmansia's from the very first day and with everything you touch. Even people....like me...I just want you to know this. You're a total sweetheart and have become a part of my daily life. You ALWAYS made me smile, and God know's I need that these days.

P.S. I can't for the life of me understand this though....

Well pooo. I'm not usually online much on the week end and then I find this. How quickly things can go sour.

Bliane, you CAN'T GO. I've learned so much from you about garage pee and such. I think I first met you last year before Christmas when you provided us with the names of members of your son's unit overseas and we sent them goody boxes from home. You made me dig through my box and find the muumu I brought back from Oahu 10 years ago. It's such fun to put it on and take a cup of tea out early in the a.m.

If you ever head south, I would love to meet you in person. If I knew all the words to songs (like Kell does) I would start singing
"Don't go, please stay". Do y'all know that one, or is it a southeast beach song?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Do you think this will help Linda?

Don’t go, please stay BLAINE
Don’t go, please stay BLAINE

If I got on my knees and pleaded with you
Not to go, but to stay in my heart
Would you walk out the door
Like you did once before
But this time be different and please stay
Don’t go, please stay Blaine
Don’t go Blaine

If I call out your name like a prayer
Would you leave me alone with my tears
Knowing I, I need you so
Would you still turn and go
But this time be different in some way
Don’t go, please stay Blaine
Don’t go, please stay Blaine

You took me away from the rest of the world
When you taught me to love you like this
Now I hang by a thread in the canyon of doom
But I still can be saved by your kiss

If I call out your name like a prayer
Would you leave me alone with my tears
Knowing I, I need you so
Would you still turn and go
But this time be different and please stay
Don’t go, please stay Blaine
Don’t go, please stay Blaine
Don’t go, please stay Blaine

I had no memory it was Blaine who was the Dad who shared all those addresses with us at Christmas. That was such a great experience. It added so much to my family's Christmas. Another reason you are so special Blaine.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Linda, I think this is what you're looking for by K.C. & the Sunshine Band....I did some changing of the lyrics.

Blaine, I think we all can agree that you've done so much, cheered some of us up, and most of all, we are blessed to have met you and have you grace our lives in one way or another, but I do know you did mine in so many ways. I'm sure I speak for everyone at DG, you are one in a million...a chance in a lifetime for any of us to have had your friendship. Especially, mine :-)

Blaine, we love you so
We want you to know
That we're gonna miss your love
The minute you walk out that door
(Chorus)
So please don't go
Don't go
Don't go away
Please don't go
Don't go
we're beggin' you to stay

If you leave
At least in our lifetime
we've had one dream come true
we are blessed to be loved
By someone as wonderful as you
(Chorus)
Hey, hey, hey
Yeah
Blaine, we love you so
we want you to know
That we're gonna to miss your love
The minute you walk out that door
So please don't go
Don't go
Don't go away
Hey, hey, hey
we need your love
we're down on our knees
Beggin' please, please, please
Don't go
Don't you hear us Blaine?
please don't go
Don't leave us now
Oh, no, no, no, no
Please don't go
we want you to know
That we, we, we, love you so
Don't leave me BLAINE
Please don't go

Cos' we DO love you!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

LOL, Julie, actually it was the one Kell did above that I had in mind.

Kell - HOW DO YOU DO IT. Is there a google where you find lyrics?

How about "We love you Bla aaa ain, oh yes we do oo"

type www.google.com....then in the box put....lyrics to 'name of song' and then enter

Dear Rj, you are a dear and speciall friend, *I won't last a day without you*!!!

Day after day, I must face a world of strangers
Where I don’t belong, I’m not that strong
It’s nice to know that there’s someone I can turn to
Who will always care, you’re always there

when there’s no gettin’ over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won’t come true
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won’t last a day without you

So many times when the city seems to be
Without a friendly face, a lonely place
It’s nice to know that you’ll be there if I need you
And you’ll always smile, it’s all worthwhile

Touch me and I end up singing
Trouble seems to up and disappear
You touch me with the love you’re bringing
I can’t really lose when you’re near
When you’re near, my love

If all my friends have forgotten half their promises they’re not unkind, just
Hard to find
One look at you and I know
That I must learn to live without the rest
I’ve found the best Rj, that's you!!!!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh ya'll are too much!
Back in the bad old days when (couple 10-15 years ago) when it was clubbing time you guys contributed to my unusual sleeping arrangements. All ready intoxicated from a darn fine party and the radar kicks in and says it's time to go home.
" Nawww, come on just one more. We're just starting to have fun!!"

Well I just got back from a run for orchid mix to try and save the beautiful hoyas I got from Hawaii. Then it's out back and work on the hoop house doors with a tinny am radio playing and multiple jugs staged. My plants are all a bunch of freaks and enjoy "The Golden Shower" So I'll multi-task and try and fill enough jugs today for a season end hose end shower party for the entire yard. (Except them finicky Autumn Damask - they get all touchy and complain if things aren't done exactly how they like it) **** on 'em!!

much love
