what it is from??
Look what I just found!! Can you guess
I was going to say banana or plantain looking at the first picture but that second picture looks downright nasty! LOL The kids said it looks like brain.
Oh God, do you think my brain finally fell out? I sure have been acting like it.
ROTFLOL You are blonde? Stick it back in your ear and see how things go. LOL
Philodendron bipinnatifidum pod ?
oh that is a split leaf pod isn't ??? and they stink
ely
In that case, I hope she didn't put it in her ear! LOL Eau de bipinnatifidum does not even sound nice...
No clue Kell! So do tell. What is it????
The mother-lode of the world's mites?
Looks like a philo pod to me too. They sure are stinky.
yes they are nasty. are we supposed to do something with them (other than throwing them away?)
I hear they taste good after ripening, which takes several months.
Monstera deliciosa fruit taste REAL good.
I don't know about the others.
I looks like it could be an aroid seed pod and many aroids have sticky sap, but the pine smell has me puzzled.
What other plants are hanging around there?
Ric
henry, around mine I have hosta and ferns. The split leaf plant is definitely the dominant plant and serves as canopy for the other two. And yes, my pods definitely stink.
Kell did I miss something, I still don't know what it is?
Yes what is it, Kell???? Do tell!
:) Donna
i would like seeds if have extra yet? leet me know send ene. with postage.. ?? thanks.. Twyla
I believe it is the pod for the split leaf philodendrum. I've never seen seeds, just a yucky, fleshy mess. Not even my kitty will mess with it, so it's got to be nasty
Oh sorry! I think it is a Philodendron Selloum which may be the same as a Philodendron bipinnatifidum. Is it? Dick cheated though, lol, he knows what I grow in my yard.
Here it is a year or 2 ago. Since this pic was taken, my husband cut off all the leaves because they hit him in the face as he walked to the side yard with the garbage and it has grown more leaves which are high enough up that we now can walk under them without ducking. I was so mad at him at the time but now I like it.
I have grown this in a 1/2 whiskey barrel for 20 to 30 years. I have never changed the dirt and often forget to water it for months. It is amazing.
I love the looks of it Kell. Someday, I hope mine will grow up to be just like it. LOL
20-30 years?? Did you plant it when you were five??? :)
If you ever happen to break and root that, keep my address on hand. LOL
It's a monster plant! Wowie!!
:) Donna
LOL Kell, I have its sister.... Right now it is happily growing next to the garage but soon it will once again find a spot in my living room. I love how they develop the thick trunks...
Hey Chele... I have your address and I have an extra.....they grow pretty fast. :)
Should I send it along with your brugs cuttings?
Are you serious???? Yeeee haaaaww! I am drooooling now! THANKS!
you all are a riot!!!!!!!!!!! ROFL
Way to go, vossner!
:) Donna
I still *neeeeeeeeeed* that. LOL Congrats on the brain Vossner! :)
My God, Kell. You grow that thing in a whiskey barrel? How amazing is that? Selloums are pretty resilient plants, I believe. You are blessed to be able to have this grow in your yard. It's so beautiful!

Ours will be going outside this weekend.
I'll get you one ready Chele.

Michele I just thinned my out, glad Ric will be able to share. Sometimes at Walmart they have some in little bitty pots and relatively inexpensive. People buy them to use in offices or inhouse, but the fact is they are the very ones that will grow to be huge when planted outdoors. I know--I planted 3 of these teenie tiny plants...not teenie tiny any more.
I love it!
Here it is heading for it's Winter home in the Living Room.

It will be coming out this coming weekend.

You must ahve a huge living room, Ric. I am so lucky mine lives outside here year round.
Mine never gets babies. I have 2 tall trunked ones in the same pot, no babies. It is almost over my roof line now.
when i've shared, i cut off a piece of rhizome. no easy task when plant is a monster. otherwise, my routine pruning consists of removing dead leaves, cutting all the leaves touching the ground (to improve air circ.) and eliminating stray branches. I don't think the branches would take root, I think you always need a rhizome, IME.
Around here the big box stores often have them in 3 gallon pots for about $7.00. They sell them as houseplants but we know better don't we.
Funny, the nurseries have the same ones that they sell as outdoor plants for about $25.00.
yes! and walmart has them in itty bitty pots for $3-4, lol
