Do pentas make seed?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I have some nice pentas this year and would like to do them from seed next year. What should I look for?
Thanks, Ronnie

Ronnie,

This is all I have found so far:

It doesn't really say which part of the head is seed and I haven't found that anywhere else.

Thanks Sharon.

Yes, they make seeds. It's kind of hard to describe, but if you wait a while after the flower it will be replaced with many small brown 'pods' that contain the seeds. When they are brown, if you take those and shake them in a container or pan tons of tiny seeds will fall out. They are TINY!

If you want, I can try to get a picture of what it looks like. I snagged some last year from my neighbor and they did germinate in peat pellets for me.

Look for a brown thing to form after the flowers fade and shake it . . be sure to wear your glasses or you won't be able to see the seeds LOL!

Thanks, Onalee, I will give it try.

I was wondering the same thing. I'll keep my eyes open for those pods now! I always wondered, because it seemed like the old flowers just went *poof* and disappeared and then new ones took their place. I knew it couldn't be that way, but have never ever noticed the pods!

I took some pictures of the how the seed pods form and the seeds - you can see it here:

Oh myyyyyyyyyyyyy. How did you figure out that those were seeds????

Nice onalee, great picture. I managed to save some before all the rain. Hopefully I will get more.

I just keep searching and sooner or later I figure out where the seeds are - assuming whatever I'm checking actually MAKES seeds . .LOL!

trial and error . . . :-)

That's great onalee. I have pentas also...am glad you posted that pic. Now I have a reference as to what the seeds look like and the process. Thanks!

Excellent - thank you!!! I took clippings, because I couldn't find seed. I know that wherever the flower is if there's pollination there will be seed, but I was just not finding any pods. Now I'll look again.
