Adzumplus and Alternatives...

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Buried somewhere in the Monika Soil thread Judy posted about a product she found in Michigan called Adzumplus (soil additive derived from volcanic clay mined in Utah that replaces all the micronutrients and minerals back into soil). Supposed to be great for everything that grows. That product sells in 20lb bags for $24.95. Unless you live in Michigan, however, that product is just too expensive to ship - costing at least as much as the products. This past weekend I was away in Maine visiting relatives and went on a quest at all the local garden centers to try and find it. I didn't but found out that there is another product that has been out many years called AZOMITE (same stuff, mined in Utah - same place). This has been used for many years in the agricultural industry as well as a food additive for livestock to make them healthier and cattle "beefier". This product is sold in 44lb bags from a place in Maine for around $17 plus shipping. I didn't find this out till I got back home and did an internet search on AZOMITE. Then I found it on ebay! Sold there in either 5lb bags or 44lb bags shipped from the mfg in Utah. I ordered 2 5lb bags to try it and if I like it, I will pick some up in Maine when I go there later this year. Here are the links for those interested:

Oh, also found out there was yet a third similar product called Planters II - much harder to find. Maybe they don't make it anymore? Here's a link to that:http://www.planters2.com/

Diane, I contacted my local distributor, and am checking out getting some.
You did us all a GOOD service - many thanks!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Diane, where did you find the 5lb size??? TIA!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Diane, you are one determined lady! LOL. I wonder if this is the same stuff that was all the rage about 15 years ago. It was mineral dust sold in big bags and it was supposed to make everything grow huge. I remember buying a couple bags. I spread it over my front bed. And come to think of it, everything is growing huge. LOL.

On my online travels today I found the material safety data sheet on it:
http://www.down-to-earth.com/msds_Azomite.html

And I found the mineral analysis of it:
http://growingsolutions.com/specs/AZOMITETypicalAnalysis.pdf
where I found at another source for azomite:
http://growingsolutions.com/home/gs1/page/29/4

I found the site you linked Diane, you could buy it there also. I may go that route even though it is $2 more than your eBay source for it is labeled. I prefer to have its name on it so I know pretty much for sure what is in the bag. Though I see the cost for shipping varies and is much more expensive for you in Ct.

Also they have a list of distributors in the country. I found one about 1 hour from me here:
http://www.azomite.com/distributors.html

THANKS DIANE for your sleuthing!!

Diane, you sound like me when Im looking for something..lolol..I dont give up.....I also will post pictures of my brug that I repotted and added the adzumplus..Now I cant say that this is a proper test since by repotting the plant and the other brug of the same variety is not in the same spot as this one but I do see healthier leaves, faster growth....Judy
Rereading my post..the maya on the left is the one that I mixed the adzumplus to the pot..the one on the right was not repot or anything added to it......I treated both the same way otherwise..fertilized it and added messenger to both 2 weeks ago...

If this is good, they do have a much wider distribution than the other. To ship from the link Diane had it was $54.95 for 40 lb. bag including shipping. for me. However they sell it in Calif, Oregon, Idaho and one in Washington 400 miles from me. LOL figures Jeanette

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I ordered mine direct from the Azomite company. I will say the customer servce answered my question as to how long it would take to get to me in about 5 minutes as opposed to the Adzumplus website who never answered any of my emails.

Juttz, I would love to see what yours looks like in comparison to mine when I get it. If you would take a picture of the actual Adzumplus.

I love this. So much excitement when I get a new product to try that promises all sorts of great things. Can you tell I really, really need a life. LOL

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Kell, I got excited about this stuff too and when the guya t the nursery was trying to exlain it to me I was dying to get started with adding it to my brugs..Its getting to be a jungle out there.....lol..now to repot up the other maya and give it some adzumplus to give it a good headstart for next year....Judy

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

lol Kell - yep, we are pretty pathetic...I'm SUCH a sucker for anything new - or at least new to me..

This does sound promising. Judy - that Maya is looking great. wow...can't wait to try this. and yes...I have always been this way. When I hear about something I want to try I will chase it down to the bitter end. I really wanted to try that ADZUMPLUS but the "frugal" side of me just hates to fork over that kind of money for shipping...so the hunt was on to find it elsewhere. I started by opening the yellow pages and calling every garden center, feed store and organic farm supply place listed in the entire state of CT - nope - no one ever heard of it. The place I found in Maine that at least KNEW what I was asking about was Skillins nursery. The lady said, "why, yes..I've heard of it and we don't carry it but we did carry something just like it last year". Then she told me about AZOMITE. She said she did not know why the buyers did not reorder it this year.

Okay..anyone that buys this be sure to post pics of your experience and results to this thread and I will do the same. Kell - I'll post pics of my AZOMITE too, and we can see if it looks the same.

Diane

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

OK Diane, LOL. What fun. I went for the 44 pounds of hot burning plant love. A hunk , a hunk of. LOL

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Ok, you guys, I am waiting for the results to decide whether to buy it for next year.

Jeanette

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Okay everyone - I got my AZOMITE today - I got mine on ebay and it came via Priority Mail in 4 days. I ordered 2 5lb bags but it actually came in 5 2lb bags. LOL Here is a picture that Kell wanted. It is very fine like powdered sugar. The color is beige with a hint of pink cast to it. I have started a couple experiments with it I will post next..

Thumbnail by KRNYSGIRL
Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Okay..experiment one is my poor little Calebro brug. This is known as a slow grower and that it is. Been in this 1 gallon pot for more than a month and hasn't grown an inch! I put it next to this wall and the watering can so I can take pictures in a few weeks and we will have a reference for if it has grown. I mixed about 5 Tbls into the top of the soil and watered.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

this is experiment 2 - my Maya. For height reference - I put this measuring tape and the tallest part is just below the 2ft mark measured from the soil line up. I put about 10 TBSP and scratched it in the dirt in this one cause it's in about a 5-7 gallon pot. Is that enough you think?

Good luck Diane. I hope you have positive results from your test.

Mary

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Diane, make sure you post your success..Im watching my 2 mayas too and it seems the one that I incorporated the clay is doing alot better..better looking leaves, growing faster and just plain healthier looking...Judy

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Judy, you say Clay. What is that that you used? Jeanette

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Jeanette..its the adzumplus which is a powdered volcanic clay just like what Diane has but a different name...I found it at our local nursery and it was just about the same time that everybody was talking about the clay that monika uses...I wrote to Monika and asked her if this was the same stuff she used...and she said yes.....Judy

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Great experiments Diane. Let see what happnes. Very interesting Juttz. I can't wait for mine.

I wil post a pic so we can compare the stuff.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

After reading about this product I decided to try it - the shipping from earthplusproducts was a bit high, but I saw that they had a bunch of distributors in Michigan. My sister lives in Lansing and was going to bring a bag next week but it seems the distributors that are supposed to carry it have never heard of it.

I'm glad the Azomite is on ebay, I'll just go that route. I'm a sucker for a good experiment! I noticed that after using the Cal-Mag fertilizer, the brugs have improved. So if this is something Monika recommends, I'm going for it.

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Where do you get the Cal-Mag fertilizer?...Judy

RICHMOND, VA(Zone 7b)

I have ordered the 44lb bag of Azomite from the nearest distributor $15.50 + 18.00 to ship each bag.
they said it comes with directions (how much per BIG pot, etc) for application.
I'm eager to try it.
Thanks for all the research.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

I got the Cal-Mg fertilizer from International Greenhouse Company. A 25 lb bag was 25.80 and shipping was 11.40.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I will be watching this for results also. It really does sound exciting. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this? http://www.spray-n-growgardening.com/?key=VOL7&html=full&data=data&keywords=dept_planthealth I had convinced myself to order some for next year.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Add me to the list that will 'try anything' once. LOL I ordered a small bag of Azomite. I hope it works as well as it's advertised to work. I'll be expecting bigger and better brugs by Springtime.

Mary

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Well DAG...Brinda - there's another version - and right there on the Spray n Grow site - which is another product I LOVE and have used faithfully this year. I am now convince the spray and grow foliar spray is why these seedlings like this one grew to this monstrous size since being sown on Feb 22nd. (this is the same pic I posted in my other thread from the other night on whats blooming at my house) This seedling is now 6.5ft tall and has formed its first buds - but its these leaves that are like 2-3 ft long each that just blow my mind. I have been using spray and grow on them weekly since they sprouted.

This Volcanite you found Brinda, sounds very, very similar. Folks I think we are really on to something here!

Diane, I used S&G several years ago on Lotus Vines which people in my area swore they could not get to bloom. Mine were covered with blossoms. Both the red and the yellow. Your seedling is humongus.

Jeanette

RICHMOND, VA(Zone 7b)

When my Azomite comes, I am hoping it has mixing instructions for making up my potting soil, plus adding to my garden soil for my Brugs in the ground.
Let's keep in touch about our mixing ideas.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh NO!! Another thing I just have to have?? LOL Spray and Grow?? I think I have been sprayed by that stuff.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

LOL Kell, funny thing that you say that! I've been using SprayNGrow and I'm tellin ya...I've gained weight this summer! I think about it everytime I spray with it! hahahhahaha

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

OH MY!! They want $99 per gallon. I do not think I have ever spent that much for fertilzer!! For that I should be able to spray it on myself and shrink immediately!

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh Kell, I purchased the 20 oz. special http://www.spray-n-growgardening.com/?nd=sngproducts This stuff lasts forever.

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Do you dilute it?....I think with all I would spray it would be gone in one day?..lolol...Judy

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh yes, 2 Tbsp per gallon.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I have spray and grow (of course, lol!!) but I've only seen typical growth, size that other plants have without it. Man, I wish I could say it was worth it's weight in gold...maybe it's better in other zones and with other soil types...

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Well Im blaming you for more money on my credit card..I just ordered some...lolol..Judy

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Kell, I think I ordered the $34.45. http://www.spray-n-growgardening.com/?nd=specialoffer But beware...LOL the Bill's Fertilizer is pretty stinky!!!

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Kell
Thanks for the adjustment. Glad you are more computer savvy than me.
;)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Glad that I coudl fix it for you, Sidney.

Well Brinda, for some reason I always think if something is stinky it must be good. LOL.

Sherry, I should order it from you then. LOL We can start a revolving product tag line. When we get the urge to try something new we will get it from one of us that fell for the promises in the past. One bottle of miracle elixer as Blaine calls them, could last a while between us all. LOL
