Of all the flowering plants I grow, and I grow a lot...... this is my most favorite bloom. I just love her.
Anyone know the name of my flower of the year 2005??
Kyle SHRUGGS! beats me...LOL
LOL Kyle. It could be someone's personal hybrid. The nursery got a bunch of different ones in, none labeled from a private greenhouse. I just love this particular one so much!!
THANKS for trying. :)
Hi Kell,
I have one that looks similar called Tradewinds Hibiscus, "Whirlwind" from the Breeze series. The tag says 3-4' height, blooms late spring to early fall, exposure: sun to partial sun, spacing: 15". It's my favorite hibiscus too and blooms like crazy. Here's a photo of mine with a few blooms on it. Do you think it's the same? The only beef with this one is that it seems to attract white fly way more than any other plants so I'm forever spraying it with neem oil. (which isn't really that bad)
Christina :~)
Kell, My guess is your plant is a "sport" from the hibiscus family.
Hum..........just a wild guess.
Whatever it is you are fortunate to have this beauty.
Bugs ate leaves off my hibiscus this summer. Not one bloom. Hate those leaf-eating bugs!
Sudie Goodman, Zone 8b, Broaddus, Texas
Thanks all. Now I want all the ones you all showed. OH NO!!! LOL. These are so addicting.
You would not believe me!! I went out last night to check on another hibiscus and walked by this one with a flash light. The light caught a small white tag wrapped around a lower limb which actually had a name tag. If you knew how long I have searched on line for the name of this one.............. what a duh girl.
And it finally had a bloom that opened all the way. I just love this one so much. It is a most entertaining bloom
What did the tag say the name was? Now I'm curious! And you're right about the addiction, I just love them too. :D
LOL. See I do not have a brain. It is Amber Suzanne (Edited to say NOT!! It is really Gypsy Music, my brain is so long gone.). I sure hope I can winter it over.

Hi Kell & all:
Kell, sorry to say to say that your plant isn't "Amber Suzanne". AS is a 8" double white and pink. If you search in Google you will find how it looks like. Here's a direct link to that search
http://images.google.com/images?q=Amber+Suzanne&
Regards
Carlos
No, I think you misread it, it must say "Belongs to Suzanne"! That's me!
Anyways, whatever it is, very nice and the real Amber Suzanne too!
Help me.
Sue, see what happens when you try to glom onto every pretty flower!
It's an illness I tell ya, many here on the forum have it. I'm in good company!
I just poured myself some wine. I tell you it is hard being me. Thank you Carlos. I have no clue why I said it was Amber Suzanne. I have Amber Suzanne, it is Gypsy Music. I guess I was so duh up till I found its label, I thought I might as well continue. I vaguely remember when I too had a brain. LOL
Would the real Amber Suzanne, please stand up.

Hi Kell & all:
Sometimes a nursery that just buy hibiscus to nurseries that grow them used to change the original name due to multiple reasons.
What I want to say is that Gypsy Dancer is an unknown hibiscus for me. There are more than 8000 registered hibiscus and I have saved in my PC more than 25000 hibiscus pictures but I don't have any pic of Gypsy Dancer and it doesn't appear in any known, official or not, register.
Fortunatelly, it seems the seller didn't change the whole name and I've checked that the true name of your hibiscus is Gypsy Music.
By the way here are some links to hibiscus registers

I am giving up on this one. LOL. Look above at my post on Sep 8, 2005
9:32 AM Carlos. I edited it last night to read Gypsy Music. Why I am changed it in my mind to Gypsy Dancer in the last post.............................
Poor Carlos all that work and it was me, again. But I love all your links. THANKS.
So out of the 8000 registered hibiscus, how many do you have, Carlos?
Hi Kell & all:
I have around 50 known varieties and, more or less, 80 seedlings. I can find very few plants here in Belgium so a good number are growing from wood I've received from France or U.S. All my plants are in pots. None of my seedlings have bloomed yet. Some are more than 2 years old but Belgium isn't Florida where they would bloom in 6-8 months.
Here's a link to a nice french lady's web page that has more than 450 hibiscus.

Oh Carlos, what a wonderful image link that is! She has some very nice acurate coloring, some images have an almost unreal neon glare to them so it's hard to tell how acurate they are, these seem like they have good natural lighting. I have bookmarked it for more studying. Kell, we really need to collect more of these, but I need a cheaper source than the big Navalet prices.
Hey Sue I paid the big Regan prices on a lot of mine. LOL. Navlets were a bargain in comparison. Bu tI agree, we need MORE!!!
Another great site, Carlos. I can tell there are many that look a lot alike. Campfire Girl is sure different. Thanks again for a new site to enjoy.
How exciting to have so many seedlings. I dabbed some pollen between flowers this last month just for fun. I have some seedpods also. Do these self pollinate?
I think I may like to hybridze a few of these. I have been doing brugmansia for the last few years and they are way too big. They have taken over my life and my yard.
So you have a sunroom? It looks perfect. Do you move them out in the summer? I have to decide how to overwinter mine this year. I usually kill them then.
Maybe you should try some Messenger to get them to bloom. I think it really can help to get things blooming faster.
Sue, in California you have two nurseries dedicated exclusively to tropical hibiscus. Here are the links
HVH (Hidden Valley Hibiscus), one of the best.

A touch of the Tropics

I don't know what prices are you talking about (I've never heard about Navalet or Regan in the hibiscus world), but 20-30 $, depending on the cultivar, is the usual price for well potted plants. Here in Belgium I pay 18 euros per plant.

Carlos
Sue, I have seen A Touch of the Tropics at the Marin Farmers' Market. I always got there too late though and the plants were picked over.
http://www.atouchofthetropics.net/about.shtml
I see they are in Santa Rosa. Too bad they do not sell from their nursey. A trip early spring there would sure be great i fhtey would let us buy.
I could not find where the Hidden Valley Hibiscus is located. Can you see where on their link??
Gee Carlos, you know more than we do about what is what here. LOL
They are a couple of local nurseries here Carlos, not a specialty hibiscus one. I have bought from Touch of The Tropics, a Mystic Pink when they were at the San Francisco Landscape Show last year, a large one. I was a novice and it didn't return after the winter even though we had a mild one nor did the bautiful varigated red one. This year I have small cuttings from the co-op and one large Sun Shower I am enjoying the blooms from. As many as I see that are so beautiful from all those links you posted, my budget would only allow cuttings here and there, not the $20-30 until I know they can be overwintered better than I did last year. I am going to attempt some cuttings myself to see how they do. Saw a good link for how to I will try.
Mystic Pink
Hidden Valley- Escondido, found it under terms and conditions.
Hi Kell & all:
Most of my seedlings are from seeds that I received from Dick Johnson, one of the best hybridizers. His Tahitian serie is spectacular. Here's a link to his own page
http://www.hibiscusoftahiti.com/
A few months ago or maybe a year ago, he sent seeds and cuttings for free but now he puts a price to defrost his huge costs (he has more than 3000 hibiscus).
This is another link to a picture album with blooms of the Tahitian Serie that Françoise Levavasseur, the nice french lady, has.

The Mother Nature (bees) can pollinate from time to time hybrid hibiscus. If seedpods appear without the human hand action they finally result, most of the times, on false pods that are empty.
More than a sunroom is the balcony that I enclosed - the half of it - to let the plants spend well the Winter. As I ive in an appartment in the belgian "Summer" (20 ºC), I just open the windows.
What is a "Messenger" when talking about blooming?
Regards
Carlos
Messenger fro Eden Bioscince, many garden supply places carry it now. Boosts the plants immune system and stimulates growth. You can do a search here in the forums and there are several threads.
http://www.edenbio.com/usa/homeproducts/?m=1&sm=1
Thanks for all these links, I now have to make a seperate hibicus folder to bookmark them all!
What garden centers, Sue??? How is the price??
Sue, a lovely Mystic Pink picture. It's one of those to the "must have" list of any hibiscus lover.
I had Sun Shower (another from Curt Sinclair) but I lost it last Winter. It was my first Winter in Belgium and I didn't know how to manage it. I will try to get it again. It was a very good bloomer and seeder (try to polinize yours) and it grows in its own roots without problems, as most Curt Sinclair's varieties.
Regards
Carlos
Carlo, I too have enjoyed your posts, links and photo. Thanks for sharing! I'm new and am soaking in all this good info like a sponge. :D
