my arrowroot keeps producing little wrinkled brown seeds instead ofthe large round black "indian shot" seeds. are these still viable and are different due to genetic variation or are they just dehydrated and won't sprout?
wrinkled seed coat?
There's only one way to find out :)
I don't know specifically about your plant but there are wrinkled seed mutations of normally smooth coated seeds like peas. Normally though I would say they weren't fully formed, still it's only a pot of compost and windowsill space to find out.
true! i'll try it out, thanks!
I've seen both on the one at my father's house (we call arrowroot, canna). They seem just as viable.
Rule of thumb is that if a canna produces a seed, and it isn't white, then it will be viable but maybe not true to parent.
Still, go ahead and test one out. I'd love to hear your results.
