"What a delight it is when, of a morning I get up and go out to find in full bloom a flower that was not there yesterday."

I just now have a few things staring to bloom, so that is my first item on my list each morning to do.Mike

Isn't this what all we gardeners live for :-) I also run out first thing in the morning (and most of the day) to see if more of the dreaded Japanese beetles are eating the roses!!

San Lorenzo, CA

Indeed, what a delight. I always had trouble getting up in the morning 'til I started gardening. Now I bounce right out of bed to welcome the new blossoms and make sure all the plants have enough to drink.

YES!!! But who is Tachinbana Akemi?

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL! I have no idea...I read the quote in a book and thought how perfect

Durham, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

tachibana akemi was a japanese poet (1812-1868) who wrote the poem:

Happiness is when

Happiness is when
You find some rice
In the rice bin you thought was empty
And you know you're all right
For another month

Happiness is when
You're reading along
Aimlessly in a book
And come on someone
Exactly like yourself

Happiness is when
You're sick of reading a book
And just then
Someone with a familiar voice
Knocks at your gate

Happiness is when
You've got some passage
That's supposed to be difficult
And all by yourself
You figure out the meaning

Happiness is when
Sunset finds you in some country temple
Or mountain village
And they say "Stay the night."
And you do

also i think this is similar too

Poems of Solitary Delights
by Tachibana Akemi
translated by GeoffreyBownas & Anthony Thwaite

What a delight it is
When on the bamboo matting
In my grass-thatched hut,
All on my own,
I make myself at ease.

What a delight it is
When, borrowing
Rare writings from a friend,
I open out
The first sheet.

What a delight it is
When, spreading paper,
I take my brush
And find my hand
Better than I thought.

What a delight it is
When, after a hundred days
Of racking my brains,
That verse that wouldn't come
Suddenly turns out well.

What a delight it is
When, skimming through the pages
Of a book, I discover
A man written there
Who is just like me.

What a delight it is
When everyone admits
It's a very difficult book,
And I understand it
With no trouble at all.

What a delight it is
When I blow away the ash,
To watch the crimson
Of the glowing fire
And hear the water boil.

What a delight it is
When a guest I cannot stand
Arrives, then says,
'I'm afraid I can't stay long,'
And soon goes home.

What a delight it is
When I find a good brush,
Steep it hard in water,
Lick it on my tongue
And give it its first try.

hope this helps lantana

Thanks.

Thank u lil''Helped me immensly''Sis''

Thank you! I love Oriental poetry...one of my favorites by Li Po (Chinese):

Last year when I accompanied you to the Yang Chou gate,
Snow was falling like white willow cotton.

This year, Spring has come again,
And the willow cotton is like snow.
