Kell,
Here is the deep pink abutilon at Navalet's I spotted today, surely you must have it by now! Called Raspberry Parfait, such a lushious color! I resisted, this time.

They had a couple of Hedychium 'Dr Moy'. Looks nice on Natural Selections Exotics site. Looks like they could use some shade here.
I resisted.

I did get a Xanthosomia 'Lime Zinger' Colocasia 'Black Ruffles' and C. 'Red Stem. They had several of the Xanthosoma 'Albo-marginata' but I have that one already. 2 more Nancy's Revenge left, go get yours and 1 more Red Stem. $10.99 for the 1 gal, that Black Ruffles there is mine now.

And I am sure you must have spotted their two large varigated wiegalia, awesome foliage, now blooming.

And I only made it to the Nor-Cal pot place, still same o same o except for this last styrofoam one that looks like stained cement or stone. $15, yeah! They said to call and ask when they get new things in. Here you can see my Lime Zinger, Red Stem and the abutilon I did get 'Paisley' http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/35454/ almost looks like Thompsonii except it has the cool two toned blooms.

I keep looking at this one, such a rich color. Wish they had it in the smaller pots, it was one of the larger ones.
Hubby called me on the cell and reminded me I had to be somewhere, otherwise I would have stopped at the pot place south of Target, I at least drove by so I know where to head to next time.
Shouldn't have answered that phone! Nice rushed afternoon, I really should leave earlier in the day as traffic was bad. Oh and note to self: leave chocolate cranberry crunch trail mix at home on hot days.!

I actually have a small varie Wiegelia. I think I got it for about $5 probably three years ago at Walmart or somewhere. It still is not over a foot tall! It is either unhappy or I got some funky root stock. :)

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL That is the sad, sad part. It is planted!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Giddy-UP woman!!! Start diggin' now and potting everything ya wanna take with ya and you'll not be doing it all at once whilest moving lol....that's what the FIL did. He had so many plants over his house, he started early on coming down here to fetch come of my bigger pots Grrrrrrrrrrr lol...and digging up his plants to take to the new house when they moved. It was a smart thing for him to do I have to say...the only thing he didn't get was the big Turkey Fig tree and it was full of figs already. If I weren't doing the 'Jenny Craig' thing right now I'd made some fig preserves or heck....maybe some fig newtons? lol

Sue, I snuck down there yesterday. The red stem had dots on the leaves so I was afraid to get it. And the Nancy's Revenge looked too icky. You must have grabbed the best!!! NO fair. LOL. But I did ask them to order me one of each. Why not? I am so out of room, what is a few more? LOL

I did see the variegated wiegalia, and even took pics. LOL. Very nice.

I did get the Violet stem

I love the Raspberry Parfait, and do have it. I fell for the Apricot one because of its red calyx. I am nuts for the ones with a different colored calyx.

I have so many hummers this year. They love the abutilons.

Good selections! My Nancy's Revenge looked worse when I got it a couple of months ago, it was the only one and was super tiny. As soon as I repoted it, it started sending out new leaves and is looking better now although I need to start fertalizing better than I am. Good idea to just reorder, the prices are too good not to. Will have to remember that. I signed up for the discount card like Candy recomended and at this rate, if we keep finding these goodies and posting them back and forth, I should have it filled up inno time!

My favorite abutilons are the darker calyx ones too, love that two toned look also the big open bloom ones which I didn't know exsisted until you posted it a while back. I didn't get that apricot one, yet, I did notice it and really have to either get more pots or make room for another one somewhere in the garden by moving something else.

Oh this is too much fun!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Calif_sue, what Navelet's were you shopping at ?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am nuts now for my Apricot one. I walk by it all day and grin. I think this is the one I saw at Tassajara Nursery last month and loved it but refused to pay $36 for a 2 gallon pot. You know Orchards sells that size for $14. If only they would get lots in. So compared to Tassajara I was happy to pay $19.

Did your Nancy's Revenge have the color variaton on it? Or does it get it later. The ones left had no color variation.

I spent the day digging out brugs from my brug bed and I think I am going make a tropical oval. From seeing Susie's, Kyle's and others over the years I am now so hot to start one. All of sudden I have this overwhelming urge.

I forgot to post the canna I bought. I am so glad you didn't spy it first. It is the best canna I have seen since Tropicana. The leaves are all purple black. So rich. So silky too. And the flower is crimson red. I have never seen suich a uniformly dark one. I usually hate cannas because they are so invasive. It takes me years to get rid of them once I plant them. But I figured this one was too good for my tropical oval to be. LOL

Patricia, we can't tell you which Navlets............. you will buy the plants we want!! LOL. Nah.......I mean you will buy them but that is OK.....the one in Fremont. I think it is the best Navlet's, do you?

I am starting to do cuttings of the abutilons. My first attempts died so this time I am plastic bagging them. I will do some extra for you. But wait a while for I promised some to a group of friends I have first. And lets hope I succeed. I did a bunch of Nabobs and they all are still alive i cna see thru the bag. So I am hopeful. You may have to kick me to jump start the old gal to get them to you though!!

I owe Patrica a couple of plants but she is too nice to kick me. :) Aren't you Patricia???

do you know what canna that is? great and would go GREAT in my garden.
For me, EE nancyana gets white markings as it matures.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh great, now how did I miss that canna? Did they have any more? cause I know I will eventually go back for that abutilon too! And let me know how your cuttings go, I am going to try some too.

Oh forgot to add, no the Nancy's Revenge are plain green at first and develop the streak as the get larger as I read somewhere. So for now I have to take their word that it's even the correct one with these plain green small leaves.

Is the canna Australia?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes CC, Australia and what a canna. The leaves are so satiny too, like silk. So soft.

I only saw the one Sue. Definitely worth getting. Bill there will order plants for you. He is very nice.

I just came across it at the Glasshouse Works website and was going to ask if it's Austailia because it matched the description. They had it for $18 plus the shipping of course, is that about the going price? I will definately go back and order it plus pick up that apricot abutilon and most likely the Raspberry Parfait one too. Nice to know that if you don't like the look of one of the plants there, you can order another.
Guess I have to sell some daylilies on the auction now for this new obsession, support my habit!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Sue, you might want to post in plant trading. People are always pulling out canna.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

hey good idea although I have never seen this one before and it's so cool looking.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I can't remember if I have Australia by the pond or Black Knight. I think I have Black Knight, will have to check the tag. LOL I am thinking I got Australia and they croaked over the winter but I am blonde, could be the other way around. :)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh Kell, I saw a previous post where you mentioned a type of plastic bag you are using for the mini greenhouse effect for your seeds and cuttings, can you share that source? The freezer bags I have been trying are a bit expensive to use.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Got any comforter bags laying around? LOL

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Not that big silly!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Get a bigger bed! :)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

So sorry Sue. I spaced. I am on my second case. The first case I got were smaller bags. This time I got bigger ones and love them. If I do not need the height, I just cut off the top.

The number is, in case you can't read it. 1-800-926-6100

I do not know if you can get them online.

I can send you a few if you want to see them.

Hi All you "dirty" folks!
I am brand new to Dave's and am trying to get some thoughts on decidious "trumpet vine", Campsis Radicans. I just acquired some and want to plant it
so that it will grow onto an overhead arbor. Problem is, it will be very near my house!! I know that it is an invasive climber but I would like to hear from someone HOW BAD IT REALLY IS ?? Will it cover
my entire house and smother me and my pets ? Will it creep in and strangle us in the night ? Or, will it just
give me something to do outside( on a 100 degree day when the humidity is 96 %) by trying to keep it
under control ? Thanks for any tips ! It's a beautiful
plant .

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

kell, the young leaves on Nancy's Revenge do not show the white marking. that comes up as they mature. I will never forget that as years ago when I first started trading, I sent a small nancyana plant and trade partner accused me of sending the wrong plant. I couldn't convince her otherwise. I was devastated--had to go shopping after reading her less than friendly email.

I divided my nancyana to death. Got another one but it didn't come back. My orig. one was from Plant Delights, and it was a monster.

I also had the Black Ruffles, with no ruffles. and the violet stem, which did not return. Strange as alocasias/colocasias do fabulous in my neck of the woods.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Kell, I figured it must be the Navlets in Fremont. It is one of the places I usually hit in my rounds. But Yayyyyyyy I am finally getting my patio's and walkways in the backyard and sideyard done. They did all the digging and framing this week, then next week when we get back from our camping trip they are going to pour. You know I had to be here to make sure they didn't damage any of my flower beds. With all this stuff going on and not being about to move around very well in my backyard, and the heat we have been having, I have held off buying plants. I figure when my hand is in the cast, will be a good time for me to do alot of plant browsing.

Kell, which plants do you still owe me?

Sue, it sounds like you had a fun time. It always seems like I am in a rush too.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

uh, guys, check the date on this thread!
Kell probably does still owe you something LOL!
