Just a few pictures from today

North Saanich, Canada

DD and I are heading off to hot old Ontario on Saturday, so thought I'd take a few pictures in the yard today, as I am sure it will be quite changed by the time we get back. And I am sure I am going to miss tons of brug flowers. This patio brug must have a least 50 buds on it, and last night, the smell from just 4 flowers was wonderful. This is an un-named brug, starts out yellow, then turns pink. Heatherbelle calls it Glenda's frosty pink!!!

Not a great picture, but my corkscrew rush has some flowers on it. Apparently, these sort of fall down into the water, and that end produces baby plants.

The gunnera has not died, and is putting out all sorts of new leaves. I will be very interested to see how large the leaves get by the end of the season.

Close hydrangea

This is the hydrangea plant that the deer have come to know and love. One side of it is quite eaten, but the top flowers are still lovely.

This is my large petunia pot. Unfortunately the deer almost cleaned it off the other night. I am thinking that the nibbling will actually help the plant along, and it will flourish even better. They only eat the flower. I have now sprayed it with egg mixture, hoping it will deter them(HA HA!!!!!) The red you see in the middle is salvia.

This is my datura. Not a great picture, but I am hoping for great things!!!!

I have several pots of osteospernum.

This is our clematis armandii. We thought it had died an unfortunate death, and cut all the dead stuff down, and I cut the main sltem pretty well down. Lo and behold, within a couple of days, new shoots appeared at the bottom and she is growing like a weed!!!!

Well, that's about it folks. Just wanted to let everyone know that I don't post a lot, but I read this forum all the time, and enjoy seeing everyone's pictures. So keep them coming!!!
Have a great rest of the summer!!

Brugcrazy: the lily is not quite as purple as you might think. More pink. I tried to adjust the picture to get it a bit more pink, but it wasn't working, and changed it too much, so I just left it. I may try to take a better picture when the sun is not shining on it, but you know how these darn waterlilies are and like to close up at night!!!

Glenda it's exquisite looking (even if it's pink)........do you know what it's name is?

Gorgeous pics of all your plants! Ü

Beautiful Glenda! Thank you for sharing. Where are you going to in Ontario? --Ginny (the one from Blyth)

Pam, no idea what the waterlily is!!! All my waterlilies are hand-me-downs, so I don't have a clue!!!
I always enjoy your pictures too!!!

HI Ginny!!! We will be spending a few days in Toronto for a conference, then visiting in the Windsor/Chatham/Wallaceburg area, and also Guelph. Looking forward to seeing a play at Stratford, but otherwise we have nothing really planned. We have a free day in Toronto this Sunday and are not sure what we would like to do.
On the way home, we are stopping in Edmonton for 3 days for DD to attend a best friend's wedding. It is going to be a very busy 2 weeks, and I am not looking forward to the hot weather!!!
So we are crossing our fingers for it to cool down!!! We actually heard on the news last night that Ontario weatehr is supposed to be above average temperatures until October!!!

Beautiful plants photos ggd. loved the waterlily and how do you keep you pond to clean???? That's my new trouble. Where's your gunnera?

I saw big, probably 2' high alocasias at Broad mead Thrifty's for $9.99 yesterday. My DW said no, I have enough.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Love your photos Glenda. Your Brugs appear to be very very happy. I feel kinda silly being so excited about my 4 lowly buds with all the ones you have. Oh well, gotta start somewhere, right? Love your Blue Mophead Hydrangea. Do you know the name? I have a neighbor here that has a hedge of Blue Hydrangea. It is just gorgeous. Maybe next year. Until they, Annabelle will keep me smilin' :)

All your flowers are beautiful, thanks for sharing and have a wonderful trip to Ontario. Hopefully it will cool down enough to make your trip a pleasant one. :Donna

Glenda,
They're all beautiful. Have you ever seen a more beautiful Hydrangea? The colour is awesome. The, "Osteospernum", couldn't be fuller. I put that on my "want" list, along with the "Red Salvia". Beautiful. And, where did you find your single, White "Cala Lilly"? I'd like to find one of those white Cala Lilly's that grow real large. Actually, I want lots of them. :)

The hot weather is breaking even as we "speak" Glenda. The temperature is supposed to be a much more moderate 25 to 28 degrees for the next 5 days with much lower humidity levels. It should be very comfortable. I sure hope you enjoy your trip. If you like museums, you might want to take in the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) in Toronto on your free day Sunday. That's a place I could visit every day for months at a time. --Ginny

Lovely displays Glenda..like Darrell mentioned, your Hydrangea is fantastic! I've only seen light blue or pink here, never any as dark or intense as yours. I'm also growing Osteospermum for the first time this year. I don't grow many annuals but I do like that plant. Mine is not nearly as impressive as yours. And my white waterlily was suppose to be pink like yours! Guess I'll have to pick up another and try again.

You have some real wow there Glenda. I have a couple of light yellow oseospermums this year, but they are not nearly as lush and full as yours. What do you do?

Have to check out that pickerel rush, probably not hardy here, but sure looks pretty.

Victoria,, BC(Zone 8b)

Glad to see your clematis pulled through, Glenda. I know it was looking pretty sad and you thought it was a goner when Linda and I were out at your place a couple of months ago. That hydrangea looks a lot better too LOL !
Great pictures.

Linda, how big is your pond?????And where do you have it??? Mine is kept clean with a homemade filter. I used a rubbermaid tote, and poked holes all over the top, and one in the side. Hubby then put in a pump, with the wire going out the side. Oh, and another hole for the pumped water to go out of. On top of the pump, I put a whole bunch of quilt batting, and then some nylon kitchen scrubbers, then some of the blue furnace filter material. Then put on the top and put in the pond. The pump draws water into the container, through the filtering material, and then puts it out the side. But I have the feeling your pond is small????
The gunnera is planted very close to the slough on the other end of the yard. So it is constantly wet, plus we water it too.
You will have to start sendign Cheryl for groceries by herself so you dont' have to look at all the great plants there are out there!!!!
Hope you're having a good summer.

North Saanich, Canada

Donna, don't feel bad about your 4 lonely brug buds. I started out that way too. I have learned a lot about brugs since I first started about three years ago. I hope to overwinter them again and have more of a tree brug rather than a bush brug. Saw a lovely tree brug in Victoria today with many flowers open. I have about 3 more flowers open since I posted the pictures.
No idea what the hydrangea is. We inherited it with the house!!!! Last year it was absolutely beautiful with so many nice heads. Darn deer!!!!!!
Sounds like it is trying to cool down in Ontario for us!!!

Glenda

North Saanich, Canada

Darryl, thanks for your note! The osteospernum is so easy to have. Just plant, and keep it deadheaded and it just grows and grows all summer!!!
The calla lilies were bought two years ago as bulbs, but they havent' done much. Last year I moved them, and this flower is the only one we have had since the first year. Just start out with a few and they should multiply for you.

Glenda

North Saanich, Canada

Ginny, thanks for trying to keep the temperature down for us!! The museum sounds like a good place to be on a hot day!! DD thinks she might like to go to the CN Tower, but we will see. Have you been to the zoo??? Just wondering if it is worthwhile.

Glenda

North Saanich, Canada

Todd, sometimes you never know what you are getting in plants!! Last year I bought some triple yellow datura seeds, and ended up with a single white! Go figure, eh???
I am trying to get more into perennials also, but I always succumb to some of the annuals. I DO love the osteospernums. I have to be so careful what I put in now, with all the deer around. I put in some lavender that so far are fine, and Heatherbelle was kind enough to give me two hellebore babies, and so far they are doing well and putting up new growth. Of course, it helps now that DH has put some automatic watering there too!!!

Glenda

North Saanich, Canada

Echoes, I don't baby the osteospernums at all. I put two plants in each pot, and just water the heck out of them for awhile, and fertilize when I remember!!!! As the heads die, just break them off and more and more heads will appear.
I don't know how hardy the pickerel rush would be for you. Will try to find out.

Glenda

North Saanich, Canada

Heather, I am so happy that the clematis has started to come back!! It's such a great plant. Too bad I don't know what actually happened to make it die off like that, but I guess I won't complain now that it has started back!
How are your brugs doing??

Glenda

Victoria,, BC(Zone 8b)

Glenda, my brugs are doing great - I planted most of them in the ground and they all have buds them. They were just new cuttings last fall from Liz. I will take some photos tonight and post them tomorrow. I don't want to think about digging them up in the fall !
Heather
