Mr. Dragonfly

I finally got a guy to stay still. They seem very nervous this year.

That is a beauty!! Haven't seen any around here with exactly that color.

Modi'in, Israel

Woah! He looks like he's actually voguing for you LOL Great shot Rich!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

wow - thats beautiful! We have a few in our yard this year that look as big as helicopters, but they haven't come down close enough for me to take a pic. And I don't think any of them are red like that! Does look like he's smiling......

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

They always look like that. Like a big smile.

Dover, NJ

Nice shot Monterey!

We have a few of the reds, but they don't like to land very often. The greens and blues are very common in my area, and they seem to enjoy having their picture taken!

Loved the dragonfly pics. They are so beautiful and there are so many different kinds of them.

Modi'in, Israel

Mark, that's a fabulous shot too!

And Rich, your second one (taken from below) definitely looks like he smiling at you :-)

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

fabulous shots. I finally got a good shot of the red but not as good as yours. They are very skittish.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes!

Here is a pic of a Needham Skimmer. This one seems to have chosen my yard as a hunting ground.

Here is a shot of a female Eastern Pondhawk--what appears to be her mouth seems to be turned down at the corners.

This one is the male counterpart of the Eastern Pondhawk--as is frequently the case with dragonflies, he is a completely different color.

This is a golden one.

Ed, I love your Needham Skimmer photo!

Rich, your "golden one" shot is out of this world! I've always loved dragonflies, but you've added a whole 'nuther dimension to my enjoyment of them :-)

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

What're you shooting Rich and are your subjects in your yard or do you go down to a pond or something?

If you see any Praying Mantis please post a shot. The Dragonfly's ground pounding counterpart in the world of cool.
blaine
(they're all great shots though...I'm glad I looked a little further into this forum. I'm always in awe of dragonflys)

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

All my shots are in my yard. I have 2 cats, so I don't get praying mantis'This is from Maui

oh man, don't you know he was sizing you up for a snack!!

"... geez, i'm gonna need more napkins"

or maybe

"You eyeballin' me boy?"

or
"don't bring nuthin and there won't be nuthin!"

(It's very hard to stifle snorts and giggles in the cube at work... I love this shot!)

LOL and look at his black pupils, that is a great shot too Rich! He loves you I think....ya know, it makes me wonder if they don't use these bugs to get an idea for all these Sci-Fi shows. Maybe they're from another planet cos' they sure look like aliens!!! lol too cute

and to think, most people have no idea the colors and beauty the dragonflys and others possess. Too busy rushing around doing their best to stay stuck in traffic somewhere.

I had to get that close to see this

A psychodelic one wooo hoooooooo....I agree Blaine, they are beautiful and thanks to Rich and you for showing me this thread of pics by Rich (Monterey). Now I know what they look like because I've never seen them before. If I did, they flew off so quick I couldn't. :-)

I want a big flat monitor or TV on the wall with all of his shots on a CD or harddrive and just have it in a constant slideshow... maybe interspersed with flower closeups.

Bet you could sell that idea to dentist and doctor's offices.

Just more and more amazing.

Lead singer SPIKE!

I'll take 16x20 of Spike please. One of those visual tricks, it looks like it's moving.

Just dig up all your volunteer echinacea each year... those pics will get you premium prices. Oh, and put a big blow up of "Mine" at your gate, eyelevel for kids. "Don't pick the flowers - on site security will pursue, persecute, prosecute and dismember. Not necessarily in that order"

more please! This is a great preview of your next book. 11x14 hard back, right?

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

wow! BEAUTIFUL! Those are awesome, keep 'em coming.... You have quite the macro on your camera. I am extremely jealous.....
