Ipomoea Pandurata

Northern, AR(Zone 6b)

This perennial Morning glory is blooming now every were here in the Ozarks, the flowers are quite large, three and a half to four inches. The root of this plant was used by the American Indians for food, weighing two pounds or more, hence the common name 'Wild Potato vine'.

That is lovely!

We have this wild potato vine here in Louisiana, too. I have never seen one bloom as well as yours. I put one in my planting boxes but I have seen only 3 flrs. How old is your vine?

Nice photos.

I have a few this year, too. They must have been a "gift deposit" from the birdies, lol...
Good thing they did it in a pot!!

Do yours have a scent? I swear I smelled a slight fragrance one morning, but then other days I cannot smell anything...must only be fragrant at certain times of the day...

Beautiful white blooms. I love the purple in the center.

I just stumbled across this thread and have seen them in these parts, but never with seeds. Do you know if yours set seed or not? From what I can find, some populations are more promiscuous than others and some set hardly any seed at all.

On the Ipomoea Pandurata ...
You will find very detailed information - including pollination,
at this link from Ron.

Saw that, but wondered about Moco's. If he had seed, he may have a population that is either heterogenous or doesn't have much trouble with incompatibility. I'm looking for plants that don't have trouble setting seed with pollen from close relatives, as many do, but some don't.

I just happened by and saw my thread resurrected, Yes, is the answer to your question on setting seed. If you look closely in this picture, right , left and foreground ,you'll see juvenile vines with one and two blossoms, their are a few 'Bouncing Bets in the picture as well, Lol.

Usually always around large 'Mother vines' , you'll see many baby plants.

Beautiful! Next year, be sure to collect seeds. The plants are easy to find, but their seeds are hard to come by.

I usually save allot of seeds of this specie ,but with more irons in the fire than I can handle, I didn't... so Keith when you mentioned 'seeds', I went out and found a couple pods that still had some in, all had blown away but these few. I put them in the mail today, enjoy!.

Hi Moko,
How about being your gardener for a week if you can come up with more seeds...lol
You're not 'that' far from me.

Would LOVE it if you had more seeds to trade.
