My new Hybrid Tea that I got this spring. "New Day" is a very pale rose compared to another in my collection that is a darker "golden" yellow. I am pleased with this one.
Couple photos from yesterday
Sure with we could grow more hydrangeas. Very nice Donna.
Thank you Brenda and Jeanne. I have a couple of these lace cap hydrangeas ((Hydrangea macrophylla normalis), but my favourite is Annabelle (H. arborescens). I have a new one this year and have high hopes of having blooms this summer. They have huge white blossoms that can be up to 10 inches in diameter. I like the showy Mopheads as well with their pretty blue and pink blooms like Nikko Blue and Endless summer both of which were very popular here at the nursery this spring. Another one I had, but lost in the move here from Christina Lake was PeeGee (Paniculata Hydrangeas) with it's large cone shaped clusters of white blooms. Sigh...I love 'em all. :)
That is a very nice hydrangea Donna. I haven't seen too many of them so I never knew what they were called.
Is your lacecap called 'Blue Bird'...looks like one I used to have. Lovely plant. I like the lacecaps better than the mop heads since they are not so clunky.
I may be somewhat incognito for the next while. Our North American Rock garden Society conference starts tomorrow...200 people from across North America (and a few from overseas)...set up is today. I'll try to take a few shots to post next week. I only hope for fine weather!
Hi Todd, yes it is Blue Bird. :)
Look forward to seeing some of your phenomenal photos of the American Rock Garden Society Conference. I will say a little prayer for some nice weather. :Donna
Your flowers always look good Donna.
Remember the Petunia's? Mine bloomed, but they sure aren't as nice as yours and they aren't even the same colour. They came out "Red", "Purple", and "Lavender". I don't know what happened. They're even small, like dwarf looking.
I really like flowers, but I can't seem to grow them like other people. House plants I'm ok with. Vegetable gardens I'm ok with. Flowers? I'm not so good with. Maybe I have bad carma with the flowers, I don't know.
Anyway.....I sure do like seeing all of them. Thanks Donna.
Darrell
Darrell, the Silver Wave petunias that I grew from seed that you kindly told me about, all grew a consistent color of Lavender. Strange that yours would be Red & Purple, too. Hmmm.
Do you have them in full sun? They love and thrive in sun and heat, so if they are smaller than normal, maybe they will start growing once you have a stretch of that good Maritime heat. :)
Here is a shot I took a couple minutes ago of one of my baskets. Not a good photo because the it was only 7:45 am here and the basket is not in the sun yet.
Mine is nothing like that. Mine is "spindley" looking.
I did discover, like you said, "they like the sun." lol
I have them in the sun now.
Would you believe that some of them, are only about 4 inches wide, 2 inches tall, and are getting buds on them. It's my fault, I know. I'm just no good with flowers unless someone is standing right there telling me what to do, step by step.
Donna, your hydrangea is gorgeous, and your roses are just so lovely. I can see why you're so pleased with the rose-its such a delicate colour.
Darrell, my secret for petunias, and most annuals, especially if they're in pots, is to drench them every single day (morning or night), and fertilize every second week (I use Miracle Grow). Water should freely flow from the pot (I put other plants under the containers that are hanging up). That is, of course, in addition to as much sun as you can possibly give them. On extremely hot days a second drenching doesn't hurt either. I found the same watering schedule works perfectly for my tomatoes too (also in a container).
My two cents.
Christine
