at the surface.....same variety.
Two more waterlilies
Beautiful, Pam!
Thanks Donna Ü......it's one of my favorites. First blooms of the season so again I'm not positive of it's identity yet.
edited to say some more buds are at the surface so I'll have a few more to post in the coming days.

Lilypon they are beautiful.
I've never been a 'pond' person, but I have a sinking feeling that is about to change. ;)
When we were in Toronto, we went to Burlington to visit with Ruth Ann. She's a brug person too, that's where I know her from. Anyway, she also has 3 lovely water gardens, one of which it quite large. When I get my camera back later this week, I'll post some pictures. She had water lilies in flower, but I didn't know they are only in flower for one day. I thought the flowers lasted longer than that. They other reason that i think we'll be getting at least a 1/2 barrel or something, is that Ruth Ann had numerous lotus, just about to flower. We'd never seen a lotus, and my DSO particularly was really taken with the leaves and plant as a whole. So, I think that'll be our next garden adventure.
GGD - do you have any lotus in your pond?
Pam - how's your plumie's doing now that you are getting such heat?
Linda in Victoria
Lovely looking waterlilies Wilma....the white is holding itself like a tropical and the reds are gorgeous!Ü
Linda waterlilies normally open for 3 days........4 if the temperatures are just right. If it was really hot there Ruth Ann's probably fried to a crisp (mine did that two summers ago.....the bloom died on it's first day open). A lotus is gorgeous but you need hot days and hot nights for it to develop and not go into dormancy. For years they wouldn't sell it on the prairies because water temperatures have to stay above 70 degrees (around the clock). I'll post a picture of mine in a little while....it took off like a rocket when we had the high temperatures......it just grew very slowly prior to that.

The Plumies are very, very happy and growing like weeds now. The bananas looked very sad during the day.......weeds says hers do the same but, like mine, recovered in the evening or when the day temperatures dropped.
Here's information on growing lotuses: http://www2.ville.montreal.qc.ca/jardin/en/info_verte/feuillet_lotus/feuillet_lotus.htm
Wilma your white water lily looks to be N. 'Albida'
http://www.victoria-adventure.org/waterlilies_images/nan1/marliacea_albida1.html
and the red N. 'Attraction'.
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/20501/
It darkens considerably with high heat and if it's dry high heat the ends of the red petals will turn brown.
Both have a large spread.
Mine is most likely N. 'James Brydon'
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/79423/
....the bloom in the background shows the classic *cup* shape and it too will darken but to a darker pink.
It has a small to medium spread.

Whatever their names, they are so lovely, ladies. A spectacular feature to your gardens.
Another very pretty water lily Donna. Ü Like mine yours is still opening and its' color will change.
echoes I love your new location. ;)
Lovely Lilies Ladies.
Thanks Lilypon for the lotus info.
Yes, Lily[pon, Thanks for the lotus info. We have extended our pond around the back of the entrance hall and I want to try them, or Vicotria nymphea. I'm afraid I never go into Dave's anymore as I am too lazy to have to fetch it. I shall try to mend my ways. Dawn
You're welcome. :)
Linda I wondered after if Ruth Ann's water lily had just closed for the evening and you might have assumed it was finished blooming. They close every evening and reopen again in the morning.
Lift the pot and take a picture of the growth near the rhizome for me.
Maybe that's what she meant Pam, closing for the day.
I have a surprise for you.... but you have to wait until I get my camera back on Wednesday to see what it is.
I think I know!!!!! :)
I'm not telling.... LOL
Trying to avoid guessing here.....I like surprises! :)
Got off at 5:30...watered, trimmed plants and did some weeding and now off to find some supper.
Ha! Now I know, I know!!!! :D
Put your hand over your typing fingers Donna! ;)
Beautiful lilies. I just met some neighbours from the next street over. They've just about finished building a stream with a waterfall and pond in their backyard. It sounds a bit like the one Lynn just build. I've been invited to go see it when/if we ever get a nice day when it's not raining and blowing. The rest of the back yard is going to be landscaped like a desert so I had offered them the rest of the red hot pokers, a piece of my prickly pear cactus and some yucca's once they finish blooming. I'm looking forward to seeing it all but I'm afraid it's just going to fuel my desire for a pond even more. Good thing I don't have room for a stream. It helps to be starting from scratch in a brand new house/yard.
I bet I know, too, Linda. My waterlilies usually last 2-3 days, sometimes 4 if it is cloudy. Such beautiful pics, thanks you peeps.
Whoops missed these two......thanks Sandy and Dawn!!
Sandy I hope you take your camera with you so you can share!
Here's the Adenium I got from Buried Treasures when we had the bet over the outcome of the NHL game. It was brought into Canada by car......he won't ship plants by mail into other countries.
It lost some leaves when I put it outside......it was hardened off too. But in exchange I got buds that are close to opening now. Ü
LOL, the first pic of your Plummie, Pam, looks like a creature from an Alien movie. :D
Who knew something that ugly can produce such gorgeous blossoms?

Donna it really, really looks weird when there aren't any leaves.....you should have seen the looks of the people I work with when the bare leafed stick was delivered to the library! ;)
LOLOL
Gorgeous waterlily Pam.
Joan
Your plumie is looking really good Pam. I wish mine would bloom and branch like that. I'll have to keep feeding it with the bloom booster fertilizer. I guess I shouldn't complain because at least it's growing like crazy right now. I'm not sure what an Adenium is so I'll have to go look it up.
Thanks Sandy.......definitely keep feeding yours.
I looked up the Adenium in the plant files. They look like pretty cool plants. I noticed that Buried Treasures has several different colours. What colour is yours? You'll have to post some pictures as soon as it opens. I don't imagine too many people in Canada have one of those.
One is 'Three Kings' and the other is a pink Sandy.....I'll post them when they open. We do have one eastern Canadian member that posted a pic in the PlantFiles of one that is very old and with lovely shape. I don't know if he is a still subscriber tho. Perrynguyen (of Floraexotica) also sells them (and he too has an older beauty).
