One of the advantages of having so many seedlings growing in 3 different places, is that I never have a clue what is where and where is what. Just in the most general terms. I am lucky to just keep them all watered and fertilized and bug free. I love surprises and do to my unorganized state, I am constantly surprised.
I didn't even see these buds growing and today my eyes went WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! LOL. Such a sturdy double. Just so impressive already. It is my first Creamsickle cross to bud. I just can't wait. OPEN OPEN OPEN!! LOL. No matter what color it is, I am crossing it with Monika's elegant pink since it has doubles in its background. I am seeing doubles in my future. LOL
Hey guys, wish me well! This is the first time I have felt any joy in a few months. And tomorrow I spend the day with my kid. Life can be so good!
A thrill in the making!!
WTG! Hope you get something outstanding.
Happy, Happy. Life is GOOD!!!
Great, Kell! I love the lushness of the double blooms. Keep us posted when it opens. How did we live without a digital camera?
Mary
Congrats, Kell. Can't wait to see her open.
Kell - you have it nailed...you need no luck...you have intelligence and a connection with something unearthly!!! Good luck, anyway!!
Carol
Oooh can't wait to see it completely opened.
:) Donna
Kell, I see yet another treasure in the making! It looks like you have some real promise in those seedlings. Congrats!!!
got everything crossed they end up super fabulous dark pink doubles
Open ... Open ... Open .... my fingers are crossed for you! How exciting for you!
Have fun today!!
Open pink, open pink, open pink
LOL You guys. I think it may be orange more than it could be pink. However, a group think may sway it. LOL.
I am going to go see it soon, pollen in hand. My kid is now not coming until dinner time. Oh well........................ now I have time to go water at my various growing grounds.
Oh Doris, are you making pods now? What fun. I can see your new GH full of seedlings all winter. I only know for sure when it has grown some. The flower does fall off but the stigma and usually the calyx stays on for awhile. Sometimes the calyx will stay on thru maturity. I always give the flower a tug when it is spent, I hate the look of hanging dead flowers. They slip right out.
After about a week I reach up and feel it thru the calyx to see if it is growing. It may take 2 weeks to know for sure. HOW EXCITING!! That being said, turning yellow is not a good sign at all. Though usually it is easily knocked off once it is time and it is not pollinated.
Here is one about 2 weeks old and it has taken.
A pretty double orange would not be too shabby. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I can't wait to see it open Kell!
Anything new happening yet?? Come out, come out...
Your buds look great. You know Doris, in the late summer into Sept. most people report incredbile blooms. So the best is yet to come!!
The calyx is yellow which is fine. Leave it be. Reach up and gently squeeze the top of the cayx where the peduncle joins it. Just a gentle squeeze. See if the hard nub there feels bigger than 2 pencil erasers together. LOL. At the least feel it so when you feel it in a few days you will be able to tell if it has grown. I think you may have a pod there Doris. Good show!!
I stole this pic when I first joined Dave's. This picture is one Brugcrazy, Jeanne made.

Has yours opened yet, Kell?
I forgot to say, I never made it down to the growing grounds to see the double. I went out to the farmers' market which is by a new pot place. So I went pot shopping. The people were so nice, they had lunch and invited me to join them. They are Vietnamese and so was their food. I love Vietnamese food. I got some great recipes too. I also bought lots of pots. LOL. Gaud pots, Mel eat your heart out. LOL.
When I got home I was going to go but my kid was here so I didn't go. My DH also said no way for we are going to San Francisco to a new sushi place we found. We want to get there when they open so we get a seat at the bar. It is the best sushi we have ever had. And we have had a lot. LOL!! Since we found it 1 week ago Friday, we have been 4 times including tonight.
kell, how come you have never named a Brug SUSHI. *LOL*
LOL Doris, I just may. We had the best time.
Well my thrill was short livedI just went to check on my Brugs, coffee in hand, and I saw my "future seed pod" in the road, I am sure someone picked it off as we have had NO rain, and NO wind, there was also a nice bud on the ground. There have never been any Brugs grown here, I guess they are curius.
Oh so sad. GO make another!!! It is so easy to do Doris and it will keep you busy all winter tending to a flock of your own babies in your new GH. It will be so exciting.
kell you are a true go getter LOL
Your dbl intact, I hope!
(How's the tummy after vietnamese for lunch and sushi for dinner!)
Fun thread -
My stomach is like steel. I can eat straight Vietnamese hot sauce and not even know it is hot anymore. A steel what I won't say. LOL
Well, I went there first thing this morning and the only difference is the biggest one had fallen off when the whole plant fell over. But there are still more on it. None have changed in 2 days. I hate having 2nd year plants in 5 gallon pots. The pots are just not big enough to keep them upright.
Keep us posted - we'll share your joy!
Looks like a very nice double in the making, Kell.
kell yu go girl!! Is it open yet? is it open yet?? HUH is it?? LOL
Good luck..
:-)
I am keeping my finger's crossed for you Kell.
Come on Kell, we're waiting on pins and needles.
Wish it would hurry and open, Kell. We're dying of anticipation. LOL
Kell, I dig a short hole to set the pots down in, pack the dirt from the hole around the sides of the pot so the wind doesn't blow them over, so far this has worked. Plus the soil up the sides of the pot keep the sun off the pot & the plant roots a bit cooler. Most of my first year plants are in 5 gallon pots, except 3 & those got so big I had to move them up to bigger pots.
Lookin good, post a pic of the bloom, we are all on the edge of our seats! Bj
Oh thanks for the idea! I bet yours are all rooted down into the soil thru the holes on the bottom. LOL. Mine root below the pot when I just set them on top. My problem is I am using someone else's back yard. I best not dig holes. LOL. I keep moving them too so they can't root. So I have to water them every day also since they are so potbound. On weekends it is such a pain to race down there to water.
Well sadly I took its pollen and then pollinated it. As I went to tag it, I knocked it off. The story of my life. LOL.
Anyway, it is white so far. I am hoping it will be orange by tomorrrow though it is very white. LOL!!! A pretty white though. A big white.
Extremely pretty!
Verrry pretty.
