grown from seed, now 8 feet tall!

these are my moulin rouge sunflowers, have been waiting for them to bloom although i love the huge foliage. every leaf bract has a bud, so we're going to have a LOT of seeds to trade this fall. :)

this one's been open for a few days, it was a more coppery-brown when it opened, but it's yellowing more and more every day.

This is a new bud just opening on the talles plant. This plant is also the deepest purple on the stalk because it gets the most sun, i think. I wish they were all this black-velvet red. it's stunning.

Beautiful sunflowers. The first time I grew these, DH decided they were "wrong." He had never seen a sunflower that was not yellow. Lol. Watch to make sure they are not getting topheavy. I had to tie my taller ones up as the blooms and resulting seeds got too heavy for the stalk.

Those are beautiful Naien. So healthy and the flower is amazing.
