Has anyone had any luck propagating or transplanting Madrone trees? I dug up several very small trees and planted them in my yard. I used plenty of the "original" soil that they'd been growing in. How long before I start to see any growth? Any helpful hints out there? Those trees are so beautiful and I'd love to have a few growing out here w/ us! The "new" trees have been in the ground here for almost a month... so far I've only seen shedding bark, no new growth yet.
Madrones
I've worked with Arbutus menziesii, a native here. Very difficult and sensitive to being transplanted. Requires absolutely perfect drainage, acidic soil (Ericaceae) and left alone. Don't pamper these plants. You may want to purchase some Miracid to mix with water, but, again don't water them much. The soil should be sharp gravel mixed with some peat. They resent root disturbance. If you're lucky one will take. Good Luck!
