Need to know the correct procedure to get these seeds to germinate.
Trachycarpus seeds
Hi Treeguy! I harvest and grow Trachycarpus fortunei by the bucket-load. I recommend soaking the seed in water for 24hrs and place in a rich, moist organic leaf-mold mix. Keep temperatures at or below roomtemperature and don't cook them. They prefer cool-humid conditions and resent heat and drought. Forget they are palms and treat them more like a standard temperate shrub. Here's a link with general information including some germination info: http://www.plantapalm.com/vpe/palmkey/trachykey/trachykey.htm Take a look at the feedback on germination on this site: http://www.rarepalmseeds.com/pix/TraFor.shtml Give the seed 8-12 weeks for germination. I have found they germinate best in semi-shade and kept evenly moist. Hopefully you have viable seed. Seed work best when fruit and husk are intact and semi-moist. The attached image is a group planting with rich soil and seed readily germinate below the mature palms.
