I found it last week and have been back again!! I really liked the selection. They are having an opening sale for a few weeks, 50% off.
They will be getting more containers in soon the owner said. They are made in Viernam and there was awide variety,
I thought their prices were comparable to Norcal's every day prices. And no seconds. I esp liked the selection of large pots which were so affordable though they had tons of small ones too.
I got this one for $40, it is highly glazed which I like. I am in my gaud phase of life. It is bigger than a 15 gallon pot. I loved the shape. They had it in lots of colors and 3 sizes. I need more. LOL
A new pot place in the Bay Area.
The pots look great, where are they sold?
And the name and location of this place is?
See this red one, I am going back for it. It is $40 I think. LOL. It has my name in red gaud all over it. I may put in a pepto pink brug in it and give the neighbors something to talk about. LOL
Anyway, I have bought so many pots from Norcal this last month and now this place, I seem to be going bonkers on not just plants now. I am nuts. I need help.
This place is on 15950 E. 14th, 1 block down and across from Bay Fair. Called Hoang Long Pottery.
I knew I shouldn't have posted this till I got all the ones I want. LOL.
I am trying to space put bringing them home for they are so heavy I have to get my DH to get them out of my car. He is not happy. If I bring home too many too soon, I am in big trouble. LOL He keeps asking me about all the pots I have on the side of the house, empty and forlorn. I tell him I am now into gaud not the boring pots of yesteryear.
Considering I can't get out of the garage because of all the seedlings I have to put up and I live 200 miles away, you needn't fret on my account. Now those Bay Area denizens, those guyz you gotta worry about.....
LOL Chuck. It is when those 200 seedlings grow up and want a fancy home all to themselves that I will have to worry!
Yeah, someday. The discorea have done a good job germinating, now to grow them up. They will need nice pots, hopefully. I am looking forward to meeting you at the roundup, I hope you come.
Thanks for the name and address Kell, I'll be heading over there with a sixteen wheeler later on today......you better hurry before I grab that red one!! LOL
You too, Happenstance. It is nice being in the central part of the state, you can go to events in both parts of the state.
Thanks!!!! Glad to know there's another pottery place so close to me, I'll have to sneak over there this week, (smile),
Annie
Ohhhhh, be still my heart! But did I miss what city or am I the only one that doesn't have a clue where Bay Fair is?
Just back from Cincinnati late last night and 12 garden tours, mind is already dreaming & planning, I can tell this is going to be a dangerous place!
Thanks Chuck, I was just reading about it.
Welcome back Sue. It is great. I am going back for that red one and if it not there I am going to head over to Candy's to claim it. LOL.
Bay Fair is in San Leandro, Sue. This place is not far from Norcal. In fact you could do all 3 places, including the place Annie mentioned. All in the same town. Not far apart.
Looking over the posts, I see I misspelled dioscorea, can't have that now. Well, mebbe when I am up for the reunion I can go by this place. It sounds very good. I have a great variety of pots, including lots of glazed chinese ones. I particularly like reddish chocolate colored pots in glazed and light tan pots in the fired clay. The tan ones are very hard to find. Most succulents and cacti look terrific in them.
Kell, you mentioned that "Mainly Seconds" was nearby, I've been trying to find one up here for quite awhile, and cannot locate online!
Where might it be, and I wonder if is same place,
Annie
On a related note, has anyone been to Valley Tropicals in Sunol to check their offerings? It's the wholesale nursery next to the golf course alongside Hwy 680. On the way home the other day I noticed they have a large sign saying they have opened an outlet for pots and plants. I've always wondered what they have there, but being wholesale, was never able to visit. Thinking about dropping by this week.

Ohhh, more pots AND tropicals?! Will have to check that out. Shhh, won't tell hubby, he already is wondering why I have to keep buying more pots and plants.
Definitely stop by Chuck, you may see something you like. I was back there yesterday and bought a few more. I have to stop but not until I check out Valley Tropicals in Sunol. I wish I could go today, Cfarm. If you go first, please give us a report! LOL I wonder what kind of tropicals they have. I haven't been over to Sunol for a few years.
Annie, the one I am talking about is rather large. It is just filled with pots. It is just past the underpass on Hesperian as you drive south from Target. It is on the right, not much parking there either. A few blocks down Hesperian on the right from the intersection of Lewelling and Hesperian.
Sue, my husband has all but given up on me. LOL
When I went to the new pot place yesterday, I was attracted to subdued pots. I was thinking great, now that I have bought all these gaud pots in bright blue I switch. I wish I had a huge yard. I fell in love with this pot. I loved the shape. I was thinking it would look so great with succulents hanging out over the top.
Kell, they do a lot of importing and transfer at Valley Tropicals, from what I can tell. Not so much actually growing. Large trucks are in and out of there all the time. The stacks of pots I've seen from the freeway is quite large.
Maybe make a stop there on the way to the office tomorrow if they're open weekdays.
Annie, as I passed Mainly Seconds today I noticed there is a cloth banner over the sign that says Mainly Seconds and now it says Pottery Outlet. I do not know how long ago it changed or what it means to its inventory. I am planning of stopping there this week to check it out.
Cfarm, I sure hope I get to go this week too.
Thanks Kell, the ones south have live plants, shatchkies, toys, fresh flowers, light furniture, etc etc, a great place for the Southerners!
I'll go check it out,
Annie
Kell, I did manage to stop by there earlier this week. Grabbed a couple of pots. They aren't marked as seconds, but I did find imperfections on both. These are made in Vietnam or Maylaysia. Perhaps the same importer you're seeing in the East Bay shops. A 20" rolled lip glazed pot ran me $27 and a smaller 10" pot was less than $6. They do have some square pots, some clay stuff and some Mexican imports that I've seen elsewhere.
They tropicals they have are all the same stuff you find at any Home Depot. Actually looks like they might be their supplier. Prices were not bad and I may go back for a triple trunk pygmy date palm as we're wanting one for the backyard.
Thanks for the update. I haven't made it there yet. I do not know where all my time goes. I am still going to try to go. Today I have things all day. Tomorrow I need to stay home and do yard work. This heat wave is ruining my yard and me!
Annie, if I drive past it today, I am going in!! LOL
Great Kell!!! Thanks!! It's so hot, we have to finish laying our new river bed rocks, Hubby brought a bunch of new ones from a site in Bakersfield, can't have too many! And the driftwood I brought back on our last trip in Big Sur!!!!
Annie
You need to put in a beach an ocean. I hear it is going to get even hotter the next few days.
I went by but it looked closed so I didn't stop. I will next week!
It's 102F this afternoon, I've been watering like a mad woman!!! Even some of my Cacti aren't happy right now!
I've been wanting to go to the beach in Alameda, but, not supposed to go in the water right now, some kind of bug in the water, not even the dog!
Well, I'm due for more pots, I just replanted a bunch, and...... off to the pottery places I shall go! LOL LOL,
Annie
Kell, have I told you how much I love the name of this thread?
LOL Zuzu. I just reread it. Hey, we are in California. LOL
Annie, please let us know if you found any good pot s. LOL Zuzu!
LOL LOL!!!!!!!! I think I'm going to try to find some today!
I bought a bunch yesterday at Rite Aid, 50% off sale, the pretty colored ones, green, blue, yellow, purple, great deal! Different sizes!
Annie
Well that throws a whole new place into the mix. LOL
