looks like a lily but....where did it come from?

Haydenville, MA(Zone 5a)

An interesting looking volunteer....came up this year and is about 8" tall with very large buds...looks remarkably like a lily, but I didn't plant anything there...(at least that I remember) This is in an area of the yard that has not been gardened (before last year) next to a rock that marks the location of the 'box' for the leach field....The peonies in the background were planted last year.
Anyone know what this is? Running back to double check my purchase lists.....alzheimers may be setting in.

Edited to say....confirmed ditz alert....Lilium formosanum....purchased in closeout early this year (acutally looked like pot of dirt now that I think of it) must have stuck it there to see what it did...sure looks like the ones in PlantFiles, though is pretty short.

Ditz alert?! I didn't even hear the sirens go off! LOL Glad you solved it, be sure to post a pic when it blooms.

Hey - what a coincidence - I was just about to post a picture of my Lilium formosanum that is in bloom! Grown from seed - has taken a couple of years, but worth it.

That's beautiful, Mike. I really like the purple stripes on the outside.
