Here are some taken yesterday to show how the garden is doing
Boulevard strawberries yielding a quart every 4 days now

the grasses bed with some dahlias, lilies etc

put the echevarias out in my 'moonscape pot' where they promptly lost what leaves they had left but the stems have now turned much brighter color and it looks like they will leaf out well

walkway to the back - the browalia are back in the sentinel this year cause i liked them so well two years ago

my strange new teak root bench which is surprisingly comfortable

campanula grown from seed (POD) last year with its first bloom season - quite unusual

Liz just talked me into moving my tender plants outside so just yesterday I moved my Passiforas. Now that I see how wonderful yours look, I am sorry I didn't do it sooner.

While you're waiting for Lynn's answer, I grew 'Kew Blue' Salpiglossis from seed this year - it's a beautiful, deep purplish-blue. I'd post a pic but our camera is in Rome with DSO - he went on a NATO course in Germany last week, and is now taking some vacation time.

I found Salpiglossis very easy to grow from seed, and a high germination rate. I was late this year, and they're just now coming into flower.

Thanks, Donna. It seems like the travel and adventure parts are few and far between, compared with the normal routine of our lives. But you raise a good point; thanks for the reminder to 'be in the moment.'

I have started the Chocolate Sal from Seed ( Lynn's) and they were easy. Lynn will know what seed co. We've been sharing the starting from seed stuff. We were not able to find the Chocolate in the garden centers.
The blu is also very striking and the color is vibrant it is also a great choice. Shannon did yours have a bit of yellow in the center?
Starting them early and pinching back gives you a much better show of flowers. They can get a bit heavy on the top from all the blooms.
Don't be afraid to cut for inside as they just send up aditional stems.
Has anyone mass planted these? I have always used them in containers as a feature plant.

I had those in front of William Guinness Columbine a couple of years ago, with some dark purple and white pansies. Not a bad show. Wish I had pinched them back more as seedlings though.

What a beautiful yard you have! All the pictures are so lovely, but the one of your new northwest side garden was awesome. Is that a dry-stacked stone wall? Is the stone native to your area? I am so envious. I am a true "rock-lover" and live in an area that has no rock. I want a large one for my tiny shade garden, but imported rock is soooo expensive here. Thanks for sharing.

Nice to meet you (virtually, at least!). I lived in Edmonton for 9 years, before moving down here for a job. I think it's a great city.

I took a close look at my Kew Blues this morning before heading to work; there is no discernible yellow, except for the pollen (some of which I got on my face, and didn't know it until I got to the office :-) The dark purplish-blue goes right into the center.

I'm glad to know they send up additional stems - this is my first year growing them. I have them in a mass planting, but it's not much to look at yet as only a couple are blooming, and they're tall and flopping over. There are lots of blooms and buds on those ones, though. I think I'll stake them. The rest have been pinched back, so I have high hopes for them. When our camera comes home from its Roman holiday I will post a pic.

Great to meet you too! Yes stake them. I got some of the small green wire stakes from Lee Valley tool and I find they tend to hide in the foliage. Do you recall how many seeds in the package?
I talked to Lynn and ours had either 10 or 12 seeds per pack and I got 8 plants out of the bunch. The mixed pack had a lot of seeds but only a few outstanding colors. I tend to like the darker blue's, and chocolate,not so happy with the yellow ones so when we got lots of yellow the switch was made to the specific color packs.
Our first go round only yielded a few plants so we were happy with this outcome. (Lynn has 1/2 at her house)
I am looking to purchase a digital camera and hope to be able to post photos too.

Finally had time to read some of the threads. Great garden Lynn. Is this your first year with the dwarf alstromeria? Mine is totally leggy and falls over if not supported (YWG winds you know).

Where did you get it? Grown from seed? Holes?

If this isn't your first year, do you bring it in each winter?

Any decorations in my garden evaporate over night. Even a bird bath which was really just a clay sewer pipe with a v large pot saucer glued on top.

Just love yours - particularly the bench.
