I soak mine once a week with one inch of water. And I give it fertilizer in spring. They make a dry shade.
I've had one for 4 years in a container. I've learnt the hard way that the root ball must always me moist else they succumb quickly to sun scorch & wind scorch. Prefered site is in shade sheltered from the wind & early morning sun.
